Hmm, Paul there appears to be a 'difference of opinion' over on ebay as to why the GS is being re-auctioned. I must admit the GS looks a lot better in the photo on the equipment for sale part of this forum... interesting.

hey Paul, whoooaaa....this guy should never have posted the dustbowl pic! Definitely says something....while we're on the subject, without having to dig through my old Super8Filmaker issues, what was the cost of this machine new?

Whoooaaaa is right!! Try enlarging pic number two on the forum link. It's the same dirty machine. Looks like it was stored near a nuclear waste dump! If it's in Miami, maybe the salt water got to it. Can't remember where, but I think I saw a new GS-1200 priced at $2700.00 (could have been $3700.00). I think that included speakers. Then again, maybe I dreamed this info.

About prices: Looking at an issue of the UK magazine Movie Maker from February of 1982 and by using the '82 conversion rate of .57 pounds to the dollar (someone check my math!) the results are: an Elmo GS-1200 with a 1.0 lens went for £747.99 or $1,309.00 a 1200 Xenon model w/1.0 lens was £1495.00 or $2,616.25 an Elmo twin stereo speaker set was £74.95 or $131.16 The ad that these prices are quoted from? I have a catalogue from Super 8 Sound in Cambridge,MA dated March 1984. Elmo GS1200 Stereo list price $1560 Elmo GS1200 Xenon Stereo $3750 Xenon Bulb $290 Fumeo Xenon Inquire Gs1200 Telecine $1495 1.2 25-50mm Zoom $250 1.0 12.5-30mm HiFi lens $250 1.1 12.5-25mm $150
Cool Stuff!
In regards to the guy who is selling his Gs...I thought it was very strange that someone would bid over $1500 for a non Xenon GS. Then when I looked at the high bidders, they were all new with one feedback or none. Shill bidding? Who knows...?

In 1979 my friend and I wanted new projectors. We each bought ST1200HD's from a reputable local dealer. He also offered us at that time the GS for £620. Sadly we had to decline the offer because we needed 2 machines and we couldn't run to that expense. We got our GS 20 years later!

The price for this model according to the Movie Makerof 1986 was at that time GBP938. This rose to GBP1025 later in that year. Then of course the xenon version appeared and that weighed in at GBP1235. Does the seller still have a bargain? Food for thought eh?

When you look at the prices of video equipment of that era wish I bought 25 GS 1200's and kept them in long term storage...video gear of that vintage is probably worth pennies at a car boot sale. I supose a good projector or camera is like a good vintage car. Video gear is always inherently worthless after a few years....

I took a look at the picture of the GS1200 which is still on Ebay today. I just can't believe that someone would sell a machine, set the reserve so that it sells for top dollar and not have the decency to clean it first! I have recieved my share of dirty machines and it is a let down when you get a machine and the first thing you have to do is take it to the cleaners! Just venting away.......

One can only imagine the terrible condition of the switch contacts, solenoids, and relays inside this projector! And I really feel sorry for that film he's got threaded up in the photo! How any one could treat such a beautiful piece of machinery this way is beyond me.
