Hi to all,
I have an Elmo ST180E at 100w with the original Elmo F1.3 lens.
The question i have is would it be a very noticable improvment if i fitted the Elmo F1.1 lens as i have been offered one for £60 and i dont really want to buy it if the difference cant really been seen?. So to sum up what will be the difference to the pic quality if any? and is it really worth paying £60 for an Elmo F1.1 lens? as the F stop difference between F1.3 and F1.1 seems too small to be of any use?(but i know nothing)
Hope you guys can shed some light on this matter?
Best Regards to all of you
Richard..

Hi Richard yes it will improve the picture and give more light, some people do prefer the 1,3 as less critical but I think you would notice an improvemant.
If you don`t decide to go for it please can you send me a message with the chaps details as I am after one myself.
Whatever you do,best Mark.

I think it's hard to give a defintive answer. I gave a look to more then 10 1.1 Elmo lens and the quality isn't costant.
Some lens wasn't able to focus on the edges, or the sharpness wasn't good like others. Note: I'm talking of lens clear, without fog inside.
The 1,3 lens is more reliable. And sometimes one of these lens is better than a "medium quality" 1.1 lens.

Hi Richard,
The 1.1 is a far superior lens and well worth the investment of £60.00 a Bargain!! if tip top.
If you decide to go for the lens make sure you check it out first as they suffer from bloom. if you look in the lens you will know if it has the dreaded bloom as it will look hazy, i believe it's a mould growth that lives on off the coating.
But still it can be cleaned. best still try it out and look carefully at the projected image and down the lens, if it is a good one it's a very good buy, as they can go for silly money, as not that easy to come by.

Chris.

HI

I am with Ugo on this, it depends on so many factors
e.g. How good is your eyesight?
How big an image do you project?
How good is your screen?
How dark is the room?

As for the lens, yes it is a good one and easier to focus than the 1.0 but it is personal preference. I spent ages changing between a 1.1 a 1.0 and a schneider 1.1. I tell you it was so hard for me (must be blind)..

Try it first if you can but so long as it is clean at that price you can't loose. Mr Todd will buy it off you for a ton easy!

Tony

Hi Richard

If the lens is in good order it should be a good buy.

I agree with all that has been said. If it is free of bloom and in general good condition the 60 notes is a very good price.
Mr T they generally go for about the £80 to £100 mark so £60 is an excellent price. Lets face it on ebay the f1.0 seems to now be fetching extremely high figures.
I also agree with Ugo in that I think they are variable in their quality. I personally prefer the Schneider lenses in their properly manufactured sleeves. The f1.1 xenovaron which I use in my xenon machine is really crisp and gives approx 80 lux extra above the Elmo f1.1. This figure is over the width of a 1m wide picture and its a very consistant figure. I have checked this lens against four other Elmo 1.1s.
You will see an increase in light output comparred to the 1.3 so taking into account the things said earlier I would go for it. If you dont like it then just put it on ebay or see if someone else wants it on here.

Kev.

GS1200 Xenon with Elmo 1.0...great combo along with a 16-CL Xenon for that super bright white light.

I think that £60 is about the right Mark, not least as there is variability in the 1,1`s and Richard is new to them.Sometimes its hard to spot floors just looking at the lens and of course through the post.!!!!!
I`m not a big fan of the squeeze all you can out of it approach on ebay either.
I`ll often sell stuff cheaper to a newbie and give a film or two as well, etc and don`t like the approach that many have of seeing them as a mine to be worked out with naff stuff, and it happens a lot, happened to me. If the hobby is going to survive and move on I think prices have to go fall a bit more for stuff, as its getting on and the comparrison with new formats is very stark indeed and I think highest you can get prices will put off many people coming to the hobby.
After all you can buy say a 2 or 3 year old video projector with an absolutely great and floorless lens for about £200 notes up now.
Value wise, I`d say about the £60 for that 1,1, about £90 for a 1,0 and about £75 for a xenovaron 1,1, more than enough for any of them as at any time they can start to bloom up( or may be already)and the difference in quality.
If you get it Richard hope its a good un and you enjoy it.
best Mark.
