what can one do about a film that is made wrong, the framing is messed up, the frame line is even with the sprockets on a super 8 sound film, adjusting the framer does not work, has anybody ever run across this problem?

I've never heard of a film where the frame line is so far out of position. I'm not aware of any normal projector that offers enough adjustment to cope with this. I think the only way to make the film watchable would be to find a lab that can copy the print and correct the frame line position while doing so. This may be possible, but would cost so much that it would have to be a very special film to justify the expense. Adrian

Agreed (I wonder what kind of film this is?) - if it's really important that it be viewable, another option might be a projector modification: vertically enlarge the gate so that more than one frame at a time becomes visible and is projected onscreen - it wouldn't look pretty but it would allow you to watch the film full-frame (with an extra half-frame at the top or bottom which you'd just have to ignore)... or alternatively, make adjustments to the claw (maybe bend it?)... there just doesn't seem to be a way to watch such a film without some major hoopla...

I have to say that I have never heard of a film being so out of spec. What is the film and who released it? I dont think there is any machine out there with enough adjustment to cope with that and I certainly wouldnt play with a machine to make it cope as it could end up being out of adjustment for correctly printed film.

it is "It Came from outer space" from universal 8 the film is complete and come with four pairs of 3-d glasses, the case and the glasses might be worth something to the right person

What a shame! Maybe you could adjust it as far up or down as it will move and still project smoothly, then mask off part of lens to hide the frame line. That's what I have done on some of the films I've show to hide subtitles.

If it were 9.5mm how would he even be able to run it through his projector, I think he'd be having much bigger problems than a frame line across the screen

OK I admit it...I might not have paid 100% attention to this post. But I assumed it had not been run and a logical guess would have been to check it before running through a machine.
