Further to one of our other correspondents,I have just picked up a Eumig MarkS Std8 sound projector that actually runs at 24fps.It has been stored (badly)for at least twenty years as far as I can make out.It took quite a few minutes to coak it in to life by judicious use of silicone lubricant.Once the lamp warmed it through, just like my poor old knees when they warm up,it picked up beautifully! It ran sweetly for almost three hours without missing a beat.Picture steadiness was really very good as was the illumination once I had re-centered the lamp via the two very good levers at the base of the lamp.It has the 12v100w halogen fitted and its nice and 'white'. The only thing to suffer was the control knob disintegrated but what the hell, all I did was remove the fancy surround to gain access to the rotating control cam and, with use of a small pair of pliers, can rotate it to its functions without problem. I do not have many sound films at all,I prefer to collect the silents, but at least now I can be on the lookout for Std8 sound bargains. This is the third Eumig I have,I have two other P8s.One the standard one and the other is the Phonomatic with built in tape synchroniser. And yes,I have an open reel tape deck to go with it too! Both of these P8s are in mint condition, one of them almost unused. Both two P8s use the same lamp as the MarkS so thats a bonus.
