I was excited all week about a Plan 9 uncut feature on Ebay. I had been looking for this Red Fox print for years and put in what I thought was a very high bid. Just needed to share my disappointment that it went for almost $500 - two hundred above my bid! Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait for the next one - for now I should just be happy with my Mountain Feature. If it wasn't missing the scene of Bela Lugosi picking flowers outside his house I wouldn't even need the Red Fox release. Sorry for venting but I had to share with you guys how bummed out I am that I lost the auction. This is the only place people can relate to losing a sought after film!

Must be amazingly rare - I've never seen a full length print offered. Shame that, as far as I know, no other Ed Wood films made it on to 8. I think some of the others are just as entertaining as 'Plan 9'.

I know exactly how you feel Brian. I was desperate for the classic Universal monster features to appear on Super 8 and whilst a few features did turn up I was limited to the excellent Castle cut downs. That is why I started collecting 16mm features as well as Super 8. I now have full length prints of all of the classic horror films and have only had to spend between $100-$250 dollars for them. Full length "Plan 9's" do turn up on 16mm on Ebay every so often. However they do take up a lot of space, and occasionally you do get important scenes removed. My "Frankenstein" print has the Edward Van Sloan introduction removed as well as all the scenes with the little girl apart from her father bringing her dead body to the townspeople. And my "The Thing From Another World" ends with a superimposed "The End" title over the monsters charred remains. Blast those TV prints!! I really love that "watch the skies" speech so it was quite a disappointment to have that scene removed. But that's the fun of this hobby, we keep on looking and slowly we build up a collection we can love. I am sure another Red Fox "Plan 9" will turn up (maybe quite soon if someone has seen how much that one went for) but until then Mountain's 4x400ft version is very good. At least they didn't remove any of Criswell's scenes.

How barmy am I? Well I got up at 5AM to bid on Plan 9 From Outer Space. My wife even set her alarm clock to I did not miss it. But the price rose and rose and looks like someone needed it more than I so we both went back to bed with a early morning cup of tea. You can see how keen we are on Super 8 here.
When my wife married 4 years ago I bet she did not know she would be in for all this fun.
Having just ordered a couple of new features from Derann I had to pass on Plan 9, but it was good to see the interest in it and I am sure whoever won it will have a nice film. The lady selling it seemed very nice and she obtained it from a garage sale.
I do have a prized film though which is a copy of Ed Woods 50ft home movie which is in colour so we will have to wait a few more years for Plan 9.
