Hey, fine folks of the forum!
Here's a question concerning Close Encounters.
Now, we know that there were approximately 15 or so prints of the Special edition, and I have the 1977 version, so we know that there was at least one of that one, but would you fine lads and lasses be willing to identify as to whether you own one of the feature prints of this film.
If you don't with to, that's fine, as I have no intention of "outing" you if you don't wish to identify that you own one, but I would love to find out , potentially, how many of the those 15 are still in existence.
Note: we are only talking about the feature film version of Close Encounters. This would include any optical sound features of this title, IF they exist!
So, I throw my hat out in the ring first, I own the 1977 scope version of this feature.

Larry,
That's the really big mystery!
Being that Mr. Fred Wilder bought his great ET print, PROBABLY from Germany, it might lead me to believe that this was a short run german printing of the 1977 version.
There is one other possibility that I know of ...
It has been rumored, (and I think, fact) that at one time some film labs manufactured prints for the off shore oil rigs and these were supposed to be duluxe scope prints. I think Barry could verify this, but there was a Superman the movie super 8 scope feature print.
Perhaps this print of Close Encounters is one of those. The sad problem is there is no way to know how many of these were manufactured, at least, no way that I know of. Perhaps there are one hundred scope CE3K `1977 features, perhaps just the one that I have.
At least, it's the first one to pop up (1977 version) that anyone knows of.
