When I put on a reel of Diana Dors I get the jitters. Is this a mechanical problem. I noticed when I watch Shelly Winters I am perfectly calm. It happens on all Elmos and Eumigs too.

Any help would be appreciated.

You are just plain wascally...

I always remember what Rogo said about Shelly Winters' character in the original Poseidon Adventure.

"Ya had a lotta guts, lady... a lotta guts."

Mr. Borgnine delivered the line with an earnestness that Bill Shatner himself couldn't have topped!

WARNING: off-topic.....off-topic....off-topic

Steve-

I've always loved "The Posiedon Adventure", but last time I watched it (cable, last month), I really noticed Borgnine's acting. It really was one of his best roles, I thought. Followed by Hackman, and pretty much everyone, they all did quite convincing jobs in thier character roles.

James.

I just imagine a dialog coach standing next to the camera mouthing "one!, two!" during the dramatic pause...

The line just struck me oddly, that's all. It's probably more the script writer's fault than Ernest Borgnine's.

Leslie Nielsen was the captain of the Poseidon...and it's so wierd to see him acting a serious** role once I saw him in Airplane!

**I am serious, and don't call me Shirley!

I don't think it really is possible to go off topic in a thread like this!

Let's not forget that Leslie Nielsen, from the beginning of his career in the early fifties up to AIRPLANE, was a "serious" actor, many times a most serious one. This film gave a complete turnover to his career and turned him into a slapstick hero type.

I saw a biography of Leslie Nielsen on TV once. One of his friends said that he wasn't surprised at all to see him in the Doctor Rumack role since in person he is actually kind of goofy! The role kind of liberated him to be more himself.

If you think about it, Airplane! was great because it took a bunch of "serious" actors and allowed them to say and do wacky things totally deadpan. Think about Robert Stack whipping off his sunglasses with the second pair underneath, of the "Rodger, Oveur" dialog beween Peter Graves and Kareem Abdul Jabar. I won't even get into Lloyd Bridges!

How's them Jitters, Dan?

Speaking of the film airplane ...

"Have you ever seen a grown man naked?"

It was a line that made me laugh and say "Oh my Gawd, that's nasty!" Not quite as funny with all those child predators out there, but it was still funny, none the less.

Okay, okay! I'm calming down now. I think John's reminder or the 200lbs helped bring me back down to reality. [Eek!]

I loved Jane Mansfield's squeak too. [Smile] Attributes were very important for female stars in the fifties and a good squeak was worth it's weight in gold.

Jayne Mansfield's "Squeak"?!

That's not what I admired! (snicker snicker!)

The one actor that I admire in that regard these days is Catherine Zeta Jones, who I have always felt has the Movie Star Glamour of the past to her.
