I've seen this book called "Book Of Film Care" written by Paul Gordon and I was curious if anybody out there had it and if it is helpful and interesting or is it fairly basic knowledge and boring?

I think I have this book...(er)...somewhere...
The one I'm thinking about was published by Kodak and is written more for professional archivists than for us. It talks about equipment we can't afford and testing and chemicals we don't have access to. Even if it's interesting it's just not that useful.
I've always gone by the rule of keeping my prints in conditions I'm comfortable living in myself and many I bought new almost 35 years ago are still doing fine.
I think the worst enemy of 8mm prints is the attic: once they go there they never come back the same!

The best guide is Gerald McKee's FILM COLLECTING, published in 1978 by South Brunswick Press - You'd be well-advised to secure an old hardcover copy, as it lists many collectors and procedures in film mainstays - The late John Black had long-recommended this book to me, and not long before he died I found a mint edition in a bookstore - Shorty

The book Pat depicted is A HALF CENTURY OF FILM COLLECTING,Gerald McKee's second book,self-published in 1993.The first one FILM COLLECTING (Tantivy-Barnes)is from 1978. There is also an earlier one by pioneer film historian Kalton Lahue, COLLECTING CLASSIC FILMS (Hastings House-Amphoto, 1970) which is also worthy. In fact, these are the only three in english,on the subject, as far as I know.

The LaHue book is a good, basic source book of reference and educational guidelines, I need the HALF-CENTURY OF COLLECTING one though, Shorty

I just got my copy of Film Collecting today. It is extremely interesting and informative on film history. I'd recommend it to anybody that is interested.
