The claw was not advancing the film. I guess I took a chance and used needle-nose pliers and slightly bent the claw in toward the film and it works perfectly. I do not know why it needed the correction but I believe I got a wonderful deal from www.shopgoodwill.com. Thank all of you for the help!

If you are having to bend the claw in towards the film frame, the chances are you have a lost or damaged spring that should be mounted to the claw and frame to keep the pressure of the claw forward at all times on the cam.

There are usually two springs mounted to the claw mechanism, one for vertical control movement of the claw and the other for axial control movement of the claw on it's cam.

Bending the claw will only mask the issue and though it may well work in the short term there is good chance that jitter will occur without full axial control from a spring or leaf spring dependant on model.

It ended up the projector was donated to a member here. I am not sure if he can fix this up or not.

Part of the mechanism of the claw is the control springs which keep the claw located on its pivot and against its peg track. But there are also 2 very important tiny ball bearings, that allow the claw to roll sideways without friction.

When both balls are correctly in place in the claw holes, they locate the claw peg in its track and also provides sufficient claw protrusion into the film sprocket holes.

If a single ball is dislodged from its spot in the claw, that upsets all the vital claw settings, particularly the claw penetration into the film.

So check for missing ball bearings on Sankyo claws, even before looking for missing claw control springs. These little steel balls can easily be dislodged by the unawary, and because they are so small, they can drop down and get lost forever in the works of the projector.

So if you have claw problems on Sankyos, check if both your tiny ball bearings are still in place in the claw.
