I recently got this Bell & Howell Filmosonic model 1744 sound projector. Anyways, it seems that the belt is stretched out and at least won't play at 18 fps. I have to many projects accumulating so if somebody could use a cheap sound projector it is yours for the cost of shipping ($20 should cover shipping in the USA).

Hold up Pat, you might have jumped the gun. Another forum member had sent a PM last night saying they wanted it. I sent them a message back just to confirm. If they do I will get you a refund.

Yeah, I was sleeping so it wasn't updated. He said in his PM that he wanted, he just didn't know my payment info. I just sent you a refund. Sorry about that.

Is this a well regarded projector? It sure looks good, but does it perform well, and are they kind to film?

I can remember the time when Bell& Howell projectors were the Rolls Royce's of 16mm and 8mm projectors. Sadly that legacy was not carried over to super 8.

It's a shame, B&H was one of the greatest names in manufacturing history. More than 90% of all the silent movies were shot on B&H equipment.

Robert, when you compare the Bell & Howell 8mm projectors of the 1950's with the later super 8 models of the 60's and 70's , there is really no comparison. The earlier machines like the 606h were masterpieces of precision design and manufacturing, whereas a lot of the super 8 models were poorly designed with lower quality manufacturing. (the rebadged Sankyo's being the exception).

bell and howells were pioneers in proj and if they cant make one no one can not like the elf as when you take of the back it looks like its been made a department store but that's just my opinion .if debrie would have moved with the times these would have been the best we have owned the black model from new and is still going strong
