This release has been discussed on the Forum in other sections, but it deserves a a mention here.

“Nothing is real” intones the narrator at the beginning and for the next approximately 4 minutes we are treated to a montage of colorful psychedelic scenes from the 1968 animated Beatles feature. Accompanied by excerpts from the songs “Eleanor Rigby”, “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”, “Nowhere Man”, “Sgt. Peppers’ Lonely Hearts Club Band”, “All You Need is Love” and of course the title song, the trailer quickly tells us the story of the forces of good (The Beatles, Jeremy Hillary Boob) vs. the forces of evil (The Butterfly Stompers, Snapping Turtle Turks, Apple Bonkers, Flying Glove and Blue Meanies). Included are live action shots of the Beatles fooling around (à la “A Hard Day’s Night”) on a film set and in a screening room. There’s also the ending where the Beatles alert us that “newer and bluer Meanies have been sighted within the vicinity of this theater!”

The print has gorgeous color, excellent mono sound and a very sharp picture. Congratulations must go out to all involved, especially the provider of the pristine source material. Available from both CHC and The Reel Image.

Doug I SECOND your opinion!

I received mine (CHC thru Reel Image) about two months ago, and I watched it several times.

What a perfect super-8 release it is! Aside from the excellent quality of picture and sound, it has great contents. Oh, how I wished it had been available when my mom was still alive. This was one of her favorite movies (yes, she was a hippy!), and I always wanted to screen this on super 8 for her.

But thanks for that review Doug. I highly recommend this reel as well (and, don't forget folks, we need to support our dealers like CHC and Derann if we want more) [Wink]

Personally (and I am sure all of you ) would like to thank the man that gave the original trailer of his own, so we today can watch this great promo in new super 8mm print.
This man is a very well known and active member of the forum, but he has to enter the topic and say who he is. I do not have the permission to do that.

I saw the print at a convention and it certainly helped convince me that the upgrade of the lab in Germany has resulted in brighter colours. If anyone has the new 'Star Trek' trailer, it would be good to see a review.

Gian is right...I was actually personally told that the source was a 35mm IB Tech trailer that was sent from the lab to an individual, and sat for 30+ yrs in the same box in a closet and was never played or used.

OH yes and please don't forget to support The Reel Image as well since he is the only one in the states who stocks new items like this for us collectors
