Well our friends in France have awarded Jerry Lewis The Legion of Honour medal , on the occasion of his 80th birthday. It is reported that Jerry indulged in his usual irreverant clowning throughout the ceremony, but then when it was time to speak he got quite emotional stating that the French were the most wonderful people in the World.
The French have always appreciated Jerry's brand of humour, perhaps a little more than his fellow American's. But no one can dispute Jerry's immense contribution to Muscular Dystrophy via his tireless Labour Day Telethons in the USA.
Happy Birthday Jerry!

I have purchased most (but not all) of the DVDs of his work that has been made available over the last couple of years. Some I had never seen, and some so long ago they seemed new. I enjoyed each and every one; I thought THE BELLBOY in particular was brilliant. Yes, he does over-indulge himself sometimes -- but these movies are very repeatable and have many hearty belly-laughs. I look forward to the release of more of his self-produced work, which I feel are so much better than his earlier ones with Dean Martin and the first few solo films produced by Hal Wallis.

Everyone needs to give Jerry another try.
The Martin and Lewis comedy is legendary.

Check out the Martin and Lewis Collection
I have purchased 3 boxed sets, which are comprised
of 5 DVD's on each set. These are all from
the years of the Colgate Comedy Hour on NBC TV.

Vintage Live Television at its very best.
The audiences were so charmed and tickled by
thier antics and quick wit. The laughter says it all. [Smile]

Boxed set number one has a program on
one disc that has Jerry laid up with a broken
leg and a 16mm projector. Reviewing the shows events.
Jerry mentions that he loves to collect 16mm movies,
and that it is a wonderful hobby.

Dean cracks back at the $60,000. that Jerry
put into the hobby!

Being French, I can't vouch for the rest of my fellow countrymen. I have mixed feelings about Mr Lewis's work. Some films, I like, some I dislike. The "classics" are interesting, and some of the later work (Funny Bones, for instance) but he sure acted in some really bad pictures (some made in France, that he should be ashamed of).
But the guy is a legend, the last surviving member of the Rat Pack, a man who hugged Marylin Monroe, who developed a lot of filming techniques...
And still a charmer. My better half did a 2 hours interview with him two days ago and she came back with googoo eyes.
(And shouldn't this thread be posted in the "yack" section? It feels like a lot of messages are being posted in the wrong sections these days...)

You're absolutely correct Jean-Marc. Topic moved! I looked at this thread and it didn't register that yes, Yak is the home for this one. Maybe it's because there are so many 8mm films of Mr. Lewis' work available......
