Mine is a copy of "When the North Wind Blows".Absolutely stunning colours and grand pictures of the tigers in the snow. The human actors are a bit amateurish-but who is watching them?

Amazing!,

I was planning on starting a thread about this film, but you've beaten me to it!

Last year I got a print of "Wildlife Interlude" from Derann which is an extract of "When the North Wind Blows". I loved the extact so much I had to see the full feature, but when I looked for the video I found out it's never been done in NTSC...and then one day it popped up feature length on E-bay on Super-8!

The film is stunning and the story is great. I do agree about the acting, especially Dan Haggerty's narration of his encounter with the white tiger, which sounds like he's reading it off a sheet of paper (...and he's lost his glasses!).

I would say "Wildlife Interlude" is a little sharper and brighter than my print of the feature, but then again we're contrasting a brand new print against one easily 20 years old.

"Wildlife Interlude" is very skillfully cut. It captures many of the best wildlife scenes of the feature (yet eliminates the least trace of the human characters and their story), and also the beautiful music. It comes highly recommended.

It is very satisfying to have access to this wonderful movie when It is so sought after yet unavailable on video. If you look in any movie discussion board concerning this film, they all say "I want to see this film, but can't find it anywhere". If you look on the IMDB, you will find me saying "I watched it last night!"

Don't laugh but, Disney's docu "In Beaver Valley". I have the I.B. and the LPP prints. 16mm of course. It's not the beavers that are beautiful though, it's the surroundings.

I'm a bit confused as to what this topic is about.

Colors? Low-fade stock?

Or movies about wildlife?

I'd say it's about colo(u)r movies that have held up very well over the years, but Trevor pushed one of my buttons by mentioning "When the North Wind Blows".

-but what's a little wandering off-topic among friends?

Nature films will always be a favorite topic of mine regardless.

I agree with Trevor and Steve. I too have this Derann Short "Wildlife Interlude" and although mine is a luttle on the blue side the coulo(u)r is still stunning.

This short was originally released by Walton an from what I remember the Walton print was even more vivid. Derann as far as I know had all the Walton Negs when Walton shut shop.

I can imagine that the full feature is a real burst of colour all the way through.

GS1200 Xenon with Elmo 1.0...great combo along with a 16-CL Xenon for that super bright white light.

Jan, it's not about beavers. The I.B. Beaver Valley is probably 1960's.

Yes' nature films can be quite stunning colorwise. I have a few on the Amazon , South Pacific, and the north and south poles and all are a treat for the eye.

I've had film parties and shown travel and nature films only. People love it. The older stuff in kodachrome is sweet too. Seeing the cities, cars, clothing styles from the forties and fifties is pretty cool.

National Geographics are a great. It's best to look for a low-fade though.

Are we talking about super-8 now, or 16mm?

P.S.: what is julep? [Big Grin]

Jan, 16mm.

Julep; A sweetened alcoholic drink with shaved ice and garnished with mint.

It's synonymous if not stereotypical with the old south. Listen for Foghorn Leghorn to sometimes use the name.

It's also a famous very cool instrumental by Ray Charles around 1960. It's called "One Mint Julep".

Hi Jan,
There's a scene where Auric Goldfinger and James Bond sip Mint Juleps together in Kentucky in "Goldfinger". But I think Bond preferred a vodka martini, shaken not stirred (the philistine!)

Goldfinger! That's the one where they squish the guy inside the car! (Imagine what they'd do to that scene with modern special effects...)

We are really OT here...
