This is quite the little forum. We are going to hit the 700 mark soon. [Eek!]

All I have read else where about the doom of film collecting seems to be untrue. Film conversation here is bustling. The addition of the 16mm categories is working out well too! I don't think we're in Kansas anymore. You gotta' love it. [Cool]

It's amazing just how popular this site has become, I guess it has a lot to do with the civilised nature of the members, the sense of ownership we all have for it, and of course the great and endlessly interesting subject matter!

Just noticed that there are 731 members now and seemingly more and more posts everyday, is this a sign of the hobby being at least stable at the moment if not enjoying a slight resurgence?

Perhaps some people are gradually returning to film collecting after finding out that video projection just cannot sustain the same kind of interest level.

700 plus and counting, my dear friends world-wide, with all of us, it is absolutely in our favor to converge on a film-con of our own somewhere in the USA - To add to what's been said; Yes, many people are greatly surprised and interested when I tell them what I collect and the hobby around it - Let's hope we can all, or most us meet at sometime - Shorty

It seems that we hit the 700 mark on 15th January and were up to 731 by 12th March, that's just over one new member a day for January; a good month!

I'd like to say a quick "Hello and Welcome" to all those new members who haven't yet posted, I'm sure we all look forward to hearing from you.

Well Mike, if the present rate of enrollment continues we should hit the magic 1000 mark a little over a year from now. We may need to think about a special incentive for the 1,000 th person...........maybe a free trailer from Derann! [Big Grin]

Mal, you're not a party pooper; I think we all realise that it is only ever a small percentage of registered members that are active, that goes for all forums. In this case though it is the constant registration of new members and the increase in postings on a daily basis that make things look so positive. [Wink]

i cant help making the analogy with hi-fi,the various hi def formats just havnt taken off.vinyl is now seen as the one true high def format,it just keeps getting better!
swame with this hobby. dvd"s are ok,but you just cant beat the real thing-FILM !!!

it's great to see the membership increase like this, it's become more and more apparent to me that this forum not only exists for the comments and discussions on the message boards, but equally for the behind the scenes friendships it creates.

Just this week I have been sharing film catalogues by email with a gent in Germany, received a generous donation of film magazines from a man in Manchester and discussed the merits of Digital projection with a fella from Greece. All contacts made through the forum.

This place is Film Nirvana!

Pretty much anyplace I see a film collecting forum, if they have a "reel" film section at all it has posts from people seeking the Ultimate Telecine or "Does anybody still use this stuff?"

Here it's 1977 pretty much forever! (..other than the fashions, and we're certainly grateful for that!)

I wouldn't be surprised if many of that over 700 members were one timers who were looking to pass off thier collections on members, which is fine by me, as no doubt a number of great titles have surfaced for our greedy film stained hands to grab at!

Film is fun, period. You can not call putting a disk into a player a "hobby". I even enjoy the maintenance of film equipment. The shear mechanical genius involved producing your favorite projector, camera, editing equipment etc., is a joy to behold. The fact that I still get a rush viewing films projected by a well maintained projector onto a large screen in a darkened room must speak volumes about the appeal it has. It always will have for me.
