Another word that can mislead us when searching through the internet after 8mm (Nicolas Cage).

I hate this especially when searching on Ebay using key word "Super 8" "movie" or film" [Mad]

Hmm...I just thought this teaser trailer looked interesting. Found it when I was looking through the latest trailers on Apple's site.

Given that it's set in 1979 and has that brief flicker of film at the end, one can only assume super 8 film will play a big part (oh, and the title, doh!) - especially as it is produced by the 'berg who was himself a fan of super 8 in his youth.

Looks like some kind of parallel Close Encounters tale...

There really could be some scope to get some publicity for Super 8 out of this.

The sort of thing that might appeal to marketing executives (albeit being very expensive) could be to send out a trailer for the film on Super 8, along with a complimentary projector. They would have to (e.g.) pay Elmo to manufacture a run of 200 ST180s!

The cost to make a new projector (a real projector not the plastic ones) will be enormous and ineffective. I believe in today's money a ST-180 will be sold around $800.

Who is going to spend this much, knowing with that money you can get the roll-royce of Elmo, i.e GS 1200 from Ebay (or a bit more if in Europe mainland).

I was thinking in terms of promotional giveaways, so the recipients would not actually be paying anything. But in view of the costs involved, it was more a 'joke' than a serious suggestion.

I DO think it's perfectly credible that the marketing people involved in the film would like the idea of a trailer on Super 8 that could be given away as distinctive promotional gift, but the fact that so few people would actually be able to view it would of course be a major drawback. Maybe they could offer a silent copy with one of those battery opeated viewers.

I recall that the distributors of the film '8mm' did hand out a bag that included a strip of 8mm film in the course of promoting it.

Adrian, if so, perhaps the most affordable one is to make key chain for the souveners with 8mm strip on it. I beleive until in beginning 2000 there was still a company manufactured such key chain and it was also discussed in this forum as follow: New toys with 8mm film inside . It was told that Derann printed those strips.

cheers,
