Well if you haven't been to the movies for a while, this one is a absolute must. Director Ang Lee and everyone else involved in getting this novel to the screen have done a terrific job.

The elements of good storytelling, humour, drama, live action, CGI, all come together in brilliant "3D", which is visually stunning to watch, its also a good one to take the kids to.

Hi Graham,
Our family went to see this last week. While no big fan of 3D films, I must admit that this one totally blew me away. The beauty of the 3D images was absolutely incredible, and the 3D was flawless. Like seeing a movie for the very first time. Just shows how a hard held negative opinion, like my own, can be changed! [Smile]
A great story too, with many intense scenes, and you really think about the movie for days afterward.
Very Highly recommended.

Hi Paul

There is a very interesting article by Claudio Miranda, "ASC" on the making of "Life of Pi"

I cant link it, but if you Google "Arri Alexa Cameras" you will find it, its well worth a read.

Graham.

Saw it at our local in Herne Bay in normal projection, equally impressive, must be fabulous in 3D but probably would have given me a headache as I have to wear glasses over glasses!! Have also seen "The Hobbit" at the same cinema in 3D also on "real" film at 24fps. Not very impressed. Cannot see how it can be stretched to 3 episodes. Too much violence. Seemed to be too much like a repeat of the earlier trilogy. Very disapointing. Ken Finch

"Life of Pi" was shot (see Graham's post) using two cameras... the ONLY way to create TRUE 3D. That's why the 3D is so good.
Many "3D" films are "trickery" using one camera and " post processing", which simply CANNOT produce the correct result. Many even take "legacy" films (Star Wars) and mangle them into "pseudo" 3D. You cannot put back something that was not there to start with... the other eye viewpoint!
These days, the enormous rigs comprised of 2 Technicolour Cameras are no longer needed; manageable sized twin HD video camera rigs do the same job easier and cheaper.

The Life of Pi is a beautiful film I wish it was on Super 8 . I loved it and of course it was about a Indian boy and India the motherland. Did you know that all the animals were CGI ! Wow I didn't until now. Ang lee is the master Guru of film ! -
