Hi Winbert, No I am here just for the above, I want to get into any old film footage; I would like to by a reasonable projector but have limited funds! Trying EBay at the moment. I am not into old movies as much as seeing the past, people, areas, cars, clothes etc. I was collecting, Cuckoo clocks, then 50, 60's moving alarm clocks, but since looking at what’s available in the way of home movies, I can’t wait to give this a go. So I am looking for UK shot stuff as old as possible. And Thanks for the welcome, Cheers Colin.

So Winbert did you buy my Elmo find ? I emailed the seller David asking if it was still for sale, and he replied saying it was and after a few more exchanged emails I get a method of paying and shipping costs, now I am thinking have I got the bargain of the century or am I just about to be ripped off ? I knew of the 8mm forum and quickly signed up; posting my first post asking if anyone is near to this seller, hoping for some overseas help, very quickly I had some replies one offering help and another from Winbert Hutahaean who said he had also seen the add but it was now sold. Oh well I thought another deal missed, but I decided as I had already organised this deal I would email David back to see if it was me who he had sold it too and this was his reply.... I sold it this morning ... A gentleman called me, offered to pay the full price + $5 (with PayPal) & to have Fed Ex pick it up for him ... Is this perhaps the person you are mentioning below? His name is Winbert Hutahaean ...
So Its funny that Winbert should then post this to me “And BTW about the above item, you might be "missed a good one there !" or as you mentioned earlier that you are now saved from the scam. Who knows?” So I don’t know what’s happening here, have I been naive or stupid? Probably both, it’s a pity as I am not too well off and an Elmo GS1200 at that price would have solved my problems! I am not pointing my finger at anyone and good luck to them, perhaps I have it all wrong but I would prefer a bit of honesty. [ October 18, 2011, 11:57 AM: Message edited by: Colin White ]

Colin, why we are some kind like having a dispute here for an uncertain item?
One and foremost, the projector is listed in a public area (craiglist) where everyone can read. So you don't need to use the word "my elmo find".
I have read this ad long time before you put it here. If you want to know, this projector was first time listed on craiglist on Sept 19th, 2011 and the price was initially $125.
It was still good for an Elmo but like yourself I was too worried to get scammed. It was not the price of projector which worried me but the shipping cost would empty my wallet if I sent the whole money to him.
Do you want to know, ....no taker for $125 so on the beginning of October he dropped the price to $95.
Still I was puzzling how to pay only for the price of projector (which I thought I could gamble with that) and pay the shipping in Canada.
Finally it came to my mind to set up a FedEx account therefore the seller could send under my account and I didn't need to send him so much money.
However, setting up the account was taking so much my time and eventually, I forgot it at all.
Then you came up with your post and quickly helped me to remind about the whole story above. So I came back to FedEx to finalize everything and got an account. I called David and he asked to be paid via paypal (with +$5 for fees). And at that time David has already again decreased the price to $85!!
Yesterday I was thinking if I got a good deal or got scamed? And as I said "who knows". I need to wait, I gambled with my money there.
This afternoon was a pick up time. I called David and he said the projector had been picked up by the FedEx. I asked for the tracking, he said "there is no any".
Funny huh... so I called FedEx and FedEx said.......
"David cancelled the shipment!".
So I don't know what is happening now.
There are two scenarios might happen:
1. I was totally scamed and loose my money 2. Someone offered David with higher price and he took it.
If no. 2 happened, why he said that FedEx had picked it up? I am not sure if he is trying to scam other buyer. So just beware!!.
For my self, I am still waiting until tommorow and if this really happen to me and I lost my money, rest assured that my $85 is enough to report the seller to the authority and I knew he was also running a business as a trade assistant.
So I just need to prepare for another battle. Lucky me that as a foreign service officer, I have many friends posted in the USA that can follow this up for me.
Back to the projector, let me tell you, are you sure that you can use this projector in the UK.
Remember that USA uses 115v and 60 Hz while UK is 250v and 50 hz.
Read about that here:
http://en.allexperts.com/q/Electrical-Engineering-1356/vs-UK-electricity.htm
All projectors sold in the USA (and Canada) do not have voltage selector like those in other countries. It is set up ONLY for USA and Canada with that voltage.
If you bring a projector from USA to UK, once you put the projector to the electric outlet, you will burn it instantly.
The only way to deal with this is to buy a voltage step up/step down.
But since the projector is a sensitive machine to the frequency, the different frequencies between USA and UK will create another problem. The voltage step up/step down will not change the frequency and to my knowledge there is no such machine that can convert the frequency.
Because you cannot change the frequency, the projector will run faster (or slower?) in the UK. Some projecors have a pulley that yo can use to adjust the speed, but I don't think this Elmo can, because it uses AC motor. Many experts here can chime in.
So you don't need to get mad here.

Update....update.....
Although David is not a member of this forum, and for sure he will not read this post but I have to write here that he is a true gentleman, and he never lied about the projector.
He has sent the projector and it is because the STUPIDITY of FedEx, the projector has just arrived this afternoon (Nov 4th).
From the FedEx tracking system shows that the projector has been sitting in FedEx terminal for more than 2 weeks without any shipment was ever made. So the fact is David had given the projector to FedEx on the pick up day (Oct 18), but FedEx is too lazy to follow that up.
More story about this will be told in different thread after I open the box and test it. Let this post is closed now.
O yeah...

Ehmmmm..... send the money and I got a GS1200 projector with cord, soft cover, a 24v 240w lamp, Lens 1.1 and.....
