I wouldn't have taken it if they'd paid me! But glad you found a bargain Martin.

I once had the loan of a stunning 16mm Scope print, still a very popular movie even after all those years. Its unfortunate there are no 35mm prints around in NZ. I tried to get one from "Fox" for the cinema, it would have done very well.

A very good bargain indeed, Martin! I was lucky to get a hold of the restored METROPOLIS BluRay for about the same cost, and it is fenomenal!
I recommend checking Play.com regularly, they have loads of these bargains, and free shipping worldwide!

I had a nice surprise in the post this morning. It was the Blu-ray version of 'The Sound Of Music', an early Christmas present from John Clancy.

In my house we have the two tape VHS version, the DVD, the compact disk, coffee table book, Derann 'scope "Do Re Me" extract, Ken Films musical highlights (...with mandatory fade), souvenier mugs from the Tourist Von Trapp in Vermont and we took the official bus tour when we were in Austria (-Went up that Mountain: even in June it was COLD!).
-makes her happy!
It's actually leverage for me getting a video projector: "Just imagine Julie andrews shrieking out on that mountainside on the big screen in Stereo!"

Thank you, gentlemen, for you very welcome support and encouragement! I just knew there were some real film aficionados around still. After all (like it or lump it) it IS a CLASSIC. Martin

It is very much a classic, yet it is the story of the Von Trapps much in the same way that "West Side Story" is a documentary about urban street gangs!
"You'd think kids that could dance like that would have better things to do!"
-seems the truth is a little...embellished here and there. For example Maria was really much more the disciplinarian than the Captain was and the kids actually didn't like her very much. Also the real Von Trapps escaped by train to Italy since climbing that mountain led to Bavaria and NOT Switzerland. Just faked papers and train tickets: no sneaking off stage, hiding in graveyards or greasy-handed nuns with stolen ignition parts! (Good for them!: my wife probably would have swiped the air cleaner!)
We found this out from our tour guide in Salzburg. He also said one lady completed her tour and after hearing all this she got off the bus and told him "You've ruined my life!"
