I have never liked my new computer with its Windows 8 operating system, so welcomed the chance to download today the new revised 8.1. However, after sitting in front of my computer for two hours whilst everything loaded I cannot at the moment see much difference!

I suppose it's nice to be up to date!

They say it's a big speed difference, but I hate the interface so much that I will stay for as long as I can on Windows 7

I now understand that many anti-virus programs are not compatible with 8.1. I may have at the moment to rely on the built-in Windows Defender until the anti-virus companies wake up to the fact that 8.1 is now with us.

Bitdefender works fine (at least the free version)

I think most will work

I was using the free version of AVG but it got removed in the update and it is not compatible with 8.1.

I have the 8.1 and there is not much of a difference. Just the little windows icon in the lower left corner that takes you to the start screen. My anti virus program work fine with 8.1 . The update shouldn't remove anything. But you know things don't always work the way they are supposed to on upgrades.

My new PC I bought this last January, (well, that's pretty darned new for this household!), had Windows 8 already loaded in, and I haven't had any real problems with it. It's the computer I have been doing my video editing on and it's functioned OK, but I don't dare allow this one to be hooked up to the internet, as I don't want it to be corrupted. 300.oo dollars for a new computer is a lot of money for us, and I want this computer to last as long as possible.

Martin I'm with you. Built my computer, installed xp-pro,
added Adobe Premiere pro CS3 for editing and it's been going strong ever since. Long live XP-PRO

For those of you who like the look of xp download a program that puts the start menu back to look like xp you can choose which one you want it to look like it called classicshell.net I have had it on my machine since day 1 and have never had a problem my computer starts right up a bypasses the windows 8 garbage and goes right to desk top. try it and report back. for those of you still using xp you will not want to hooked up to the internet come February, as you know Microsoft will not support xp as of that date meaning you will be vulnerable to hacking and viruses.

Perhaps something has changed. Me, perhaps?
I have now been successful in downloading the AVG free anti-virus protection onto my upgraded Windows 8.1.

Maurice...just my opinion...but AVG is a resource hog and doesn't provide any better protection then Microsoft's Defender.

I prefer 7 myself, XP was good too. But just don`t like 8 at all.

Best Mark.
