I dont think its worth spending money to have work done on these bell & howells if they have cracked worm gears which could fail at any time. What if i was to swap over all the sound related parts with another identical machine maybe this would work without having to change capacitors etc.
The capacitors in an other machine are going to also be on their last legs. If you have an antique radio collector's group in the area, someone there ought to be able to help you out, and maybe even teach you how to do the repair. it's not super hard if you are patient and methodical, and take notes as you remove and replace parts one at a time.
