  • Help with the video out on a TRV-16G

    Hey all

i have got my hands on a TRV-16G device and desperate to give it a spin. At the moment I’m just testing it out and so far the device bulbs and belts are good and the machine seems to run film smoothly.

issue I’m having is the image. I noticed on the back I don’t have a regular AV output it’s apparently a BNC terminal. It also has a similar output for something called gen lock.

I bought what I thought was the correct adapter to go from bnc to av but withers it’s incorrect, not working or there’s s problem with the video capture on the device. Is there anyone out there with knowledge on this machine and can help me work out what the issue is. Also maybe a link to the correct connector would also be excellent. I’m hoping I can problem solve this one.

    any help much appreciated.

    best

    Hi Scott,

Most of the Elmo TVR-16 type projectors have an
S-Video output, plus a yellow RCA plug composite video
out output, plus a red RCA plug for audio output, such
as in this YouTube video of an TRV-16G ----

Elmo 16mm Transvideo TRV-16G Film to Digital Telecine Review

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0GPhV_XNrA

I did find this eBay auction of what you have with the
BNC connectors. One can't see (read) how the BNC connectors
are labeled (last photo in the listing). I can see the red
RCA plug listed as audio. From your message it sounds like
one BNC is labled "Video" and the other "Genlock " ??

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/385074541083

As for a cable for the video, they do make a BNC to RCA
cable, readily available. If one has a cable with BNC on
both ends, they do make a RCA adapter that attaches to it.
Push in the adapter & twist to the right.

A Genlock is usually connected to a video switcher so when
you switch from one video source to another it stays in sync
and the video doesn't get screwed up (video rolls, twists,
jumps, etc.). As long as you aren't connecting the video out
to a video switcher, you shouldn't have to use the Genlock
    along with the video out.

So what you need for your setup is:

    1. Video cable with BNC female connector on one end, RCA male
    connector on the other end.

    2. Audio cable with RCA male connectors on both ends.

And then whatever you are connecting it to, that will accept
the RCA male connectors from your video & audio cables.

That Genlock output is only for syncing its actual video output with other video device - useful when connecting to video switcher/mixer in broadcast environment. Therefore no need to concern that in normal/home use.

The output from the machine should be just standard composite video signal via BNC jack. If all works fine you should be able to, for example, hook the projector to any TV screen with RCA input using that BNC to RCA adaptor to get the picture on screen - like hooking a vcr to a TV, that's all.

That also means if you get no picture from it even though the cable & the adaptor is OK, its internal camera unit might had been toasted.

Ah ok! Thank you Gary and Nantawat. Let me try another bnc to rca lead to see what’s going on.

Out of interest if the inbuilt camera is toast is there anyone on this good earth that can replace one at all?

Stan Jelavic can upgrade your TRV-16 to high definition.

From Denivi’s web site the upgraded camera has a 700 line maximum resolution and it’s still outputting composite video.
