Question though is this a Derann copy as I thought there were different prints floating around? It just has a label looks like it's been taken from a Derann catalogue/flyer.

I was the assistant editor on that film😎. Surprising to see it in Super 8! Edited in 35mm on upright Movieolas in the heart of Hollywood many moons ago..

The Derann print I had was full colour label. Looking at screen shots they are disappointing compared to what was available on their release. There was an earlier bootleg Italian prints similar in quality to the Dumbo print that originated from there. I dont think it has ever been officially released by Disney on DVD or Blu ray as an extra.

There was an official Disney compilation released on video and laserdisc.

The Derann print of Once Upon A Mouse is simply stunning - razor sharp with rich saturated colors, one of the best S8 prints that I have ever seen.

Interesting there are so many versions out there. They never turned up on lists or eBay to often. The similar less entertaining Tricks of the Trade 2x400 was always more plentiful. This again came from different sources and varied in quality.

Now I know what happened to this print:

                      https://m.facebook.com/story.php?sto...&id=1658979997

I asked Ignacio about the pict quality which js not as shar as the usual Derann' and now I got the answer. The box is indeed showing Derann's but may be the previous owner has swapped it.

I bought my copy new from Derann on recommendation of a collector I can’t remember if it featured in their catalogue or only on one of their extra lists .I don’t think it was available for too long which suggests a special list like Jurassic feature. It was being sold at. Blackpool that year and prints sold out quickly. I think the list price was £79.99 at the time.

Remember being asked to show it at a mini convention and a few older collectors must have had earlier prints which were not in same league as the Derann release. Tricks of the Trade was the same. You could see it listed for £29.99 or upto £69.99 which demonstrated the difference. I had a Derann low fade print of it but unless you were into multi plane camera being used for The Old Mill and technical aspects of animation it wasn’t very entertaining or repeatable.

I have to agree with Mike. I was offered this by Steve O. He sent me a print. I screened it once but was honestly not impressed. I sent it back.
It was the Derann print and was exceptionally sharp, but I've really never been into these quick clip compilations. I must admit that there are some little bits O Disney on this reel that can't be found on super 8 anywhere else.

In my super 8 collection I treat it as the jewel in the crown. Very repeatable (as i only collect shorts) and a good buy, which I got from one of the BFCCs that Derann attended. Sometimes I see this listed within the 16mm section of the US Ebay, and dream of owning it.

Martin, if you already have the Derann print, you're honestly better off than having a 16mm, as, Derann's super 8 Disney prints were right up there with the sharpness of a good 16mm, (and I would argue, a little better), besides, that magnetic soundtrack on super 8 nearly always has better sound definition than the optical track on a 16mm.
