Congratulations, Mark, for making such a great book for the community! I was lucky to be able to interview Mark about his new book. You can read more about the podcast episode in a separate post.

Mark's book is a well-researched, very enjoyable read. It starts off with an introduction by Director Donald Farmer, who shows that he's been a real Super 8 film fan for a long time. Keith Wilton then looks back on how he got involved editing cutdowns for Perry’s Movies, PM Films & Derann. Keith includes a list of his Super 8 credits, which amazingly total over 30! Next, Mark goes into detail about a number of UK based distributors, however Castle/U-8 is the only non-UK company covered in this section. Lee Mannering then relates the history of his classic documentary about the hobby, The Cinema in Miniature.
The remainder of the book is devoted to the many package films that Mark has chosen to highlight, 148 titles in all. The films' cover artwork is nicely presented, with each getting a synopsis along with a description of the various versions available. Here I was introduced to a few titles I never knew existed, among them Iver’s Hugo the Hippo, UFA’s The Concorde Affair & Fletcher’s The Playbirds! Once I reached the end of the book, I became incredibly greedy, wishing that Mark had continued on & on.
I recommend Bootlace Cinema not only to fellow film collectors, but also to lovers of these genre movies.
The ultimate compliment I can give is that reading Mark’s book prompted me to set up my projector to start reviewing my collection.
