Hi everyone, Just picked up a Kodak Ektasound 265 MovieDeck to allow us to watch a bunch of family films from when my wife was a kid. Watched the first film and about 3/4 through the projector rewound the film. Now the unit will not stay or even try to stay in the Run Thread mode, snaps straight to rewind. After reading through some posts, I am assuming I am having the problem of the auto-rewind lever/mechanism being stuck in the rewind mode. I am mechanically inclined and wish to attempt to either repair or fully disable the auto-rewind function of the projector. Looking for instruction on cover removal and the location of the auto-rewind mechanism? Any an all advise and help is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Dave

Happily received the service manual for my projector from Janice, thanks again Janice! I have reviewed the manual and am ready to perform the task of cleaning the rapid rewind latch & switch, seems a simple fix. Very excited to look through roughly 50 Super 8 films from my wife's childhood and then maybe explore digital transfers of the ones she wishes to share with her sister. I will agree the projector is really cool in design and function, fairly simple to understand & use. I will report back after the repairs and let you know what I learned.

Repair successful, supply spindle removed, cover removed and problem identified. Found the latch that controls the rapid rewind switch completely gummed up, so the spring was unable to return the latch to the locked position. I cleaned up the latch and lubed with 3&1 oil, latch now gliding smoothly, and projector operating normally. Time to watch some old movies! Thanks everyone!

Hello everyone, So I ended up disabling the auto rewind feature on my Ektasound 265 as many suggested in other posts, lubing & freeing up the mechanism wasn't enough to keep it from auto-rewinding. Upon reassembly, my light bulb decided to burn out, so a week later I received a new bulb and my projector was back up and running and my wife & I were able to enjoy several of her home movies from when she was a kid.
And then.....the movies stopped feeding into the projector, just won't catch after several attempts. So I find myself at a crossroads of sorts. I have $70 invested into this projector ($50 purchase price $20 for the light bulb), and reading mixed reviews on these projectors. The other "common" repair for these projectors is replacing the "shutter". I don't believe the shutter has anything to do with my projector not wanting to receive or feed the film. If someone can suggest some things to try for repair, I am very mechanically inclined, but really not wanting to dump any more money into this projector as I know it is old and I can see myself putting more money into it than it is worth, if I haven't already.
So I'm looking for options. Definitely want my wife (and her sister) to be able to see more of the films and probably would like to digitize some or all of them for preservation and sharing. We have roughly 50-75 films of the small (50 foot?) variety and a couple large ones. We sent several camcorder & VHS tapes to a company last year for digitizing and that was expensive. We have too many super 8 films to go this route, at least with the company we used (ouch!).
I am exploring the Wolverine scanner, but wondering if there are better options you could recommend? Is there a "new" projector being made? Is there a remanufactured or repaired "old" projector that you could recommend.
Thanks in advance! Dave
