  • Kodak Ektasound 265 Movie Deck with auto-rewind issue

Hi everyone, Just picked up a Kodak Ektasound 265 MovieDeck to allow us to watch a bunch of family films from when my wife was a kid. Watched the first film and about 3/4 through the projector rewound the film. Now the unit will not stay or even try to stay in the Run Thread mode, snaps straight to rewind. After reading through some posts, I am assuming I am having the problem of the auto-rewind lever/mechanism being stuck in the rewind mode. I am mechanically inclined and wish to attempt to either repair or fully disable the auto-rewind function of the projector. Looking for instruction on cover removal and the location of the auto-rewind mechanism? Any an all advise and help is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Dave

Welcome to the Forum Dave! I'll send you a PDF of the service manual tomorrow. It will show you how to remove the cover and get into the machine so you can disconnect the rewind feature.

Happily received the service manual for my projector from Janice, thanks again Janice! I have reviewed the manual and am ready to perform the task of cleaning the rapid rewind latch & switch, seems a simple fix. Very excited to look through roughly 50 Super 8 films from my wife's childhood and then maybe explore digital transfers of the ones she wishes to share with her sister. I will agree the projector is really cool in design and function, fairly simple to understand & use. I will report back after the repairs and let you know what I learned.

Repair successful, supply spindle removed, cover removed and problem identified. Found the latch that controls the rapid rewind switch completely gummed up, so the spring was unable to return the latch to the locked position. I cleaned up the latch and lubed with 3&1 oil, latch now gliding smoothly, and projector operating normally. Time to watch some old movies! Thanks everyone!
