  • Recent Acquisition of Bolex H-8 Camera

I am a new 8mm forum member and proud owner of a nice Bolex H-8 camera.
    I also own a Kodak 8mm and a Keystone 8mm camera.
It has been years since I last filmed with the Kodak camera and I look forward to cinematography with the Bolex.
Planning to DIY develop my double 8 film with a Lomo UPB 1-a tank.

    Any advice is appreciated!

Very good. If you feel a camera should be overhauled, Im here to do that. Especially an H-8 needs lubrication in some crucial spots more than an H-16. I can also help with lenses and accessories.

Next important is a good tripod. And a fine projector.

There are several manuals online, e.g.:
      https://16mmadventures.com/wp-conten...ser-manual.pdf

The biggest variety of D8-filmstocks in the USA is most likely available from the FPP:

      https://filmphotographystore.com/col...-film/double-8

John Schwind seems to be out of business (https://www.buy8mmfilm.com/).

Good luck, welcome to this forum and have fun with your camera!

My H-8 non-reflex does not need overhaul however I am concerned about lubrication.
Is there a source for a proper oil?

I agree that FPP has an excellent variety of film stock.

If you're into projecting films, I can highly recommend Kodak's latest Ektachrome color reversal! Very good colors, contrast, and sharpness! Of course I'm shooting the Super 8 version, which is easier to find than Regular 8. Although FPP has it in Regular 8, and keeps it in stock.

I have a Keystone 8mm projector for viewing films.

Is the Bolex M-8 projector worth a look?

I've never owned the Bolex M-8, but it is a highly regarded Standard 8 silent projector! Built to legendary Bolex Swiss standards! I own the Bolex 18-5 Standard 8 projector, and that is built to a high standard of fit and finish! Both use the very reliable twist-to-focus lenses for very accurate focusing.

Which model? There were about twenty different Keystone projectors.

Nice. The 109 was the successor to the A-8 which appeared in 1941. I think it was sold until 1959 or even 1960.

I have both the H8 and H8 Rex 4, great cameras. The only downside is the size and weight, I find I use my D8 more often. If you're looking for any lenses or accessories let me know, I have some stuff for sale right now.

I've owned many 8mm projectors, the M8 is the best. I have a few 18-5 models, they're not far behind. I've owned the Keystone K-109, still have a K-109D, great projectors as well.
