  • Belt problem with Ilford Elmo FP-C projector

Hi, I have just joined this forum as I have my parents old projector and films from the 40's and 50's that I would love to see. I have managed to get the projector running and have an image on the screen, however it is in slow motion! I have the speed dial to it's fastest but it doesn't make any difference. I have located the two oil tubes in the back and replaced the belt but I think the belt may be the problem as when it is running it is sagging in the middle on the lower central runner and sticks regularly. I am not ofay with technical jargon related to film equipment which I'm sure has already been deduced! I wonder if anyone is able to help me in some way? Possibly I have bought the wrong belt and fingers crossed that would solve the whole thing. Thank you for your time. Jo

    Hi Jo,

    Welcome!

This Ebay seller has never done me wrong and I've probably bought about 10 sets of belts from him:

    -and he ships worldwide.

Like Steve, I have also bought belts from the Ebay seller he has linked here. I own a Honeywell Elmo FP8-C projector from 1968. The belt set from this seller fit perfectly! Your machine is very similar to mine. Make sure when you install the new belt you also clean the pulleys really well. Old rubber bits and pieces can lodge in these pulleys. Years of this happening will lower the traction, and grip of the belts with the pulleys. I use a Q tip and apply alcohol to the pulley grooves where the belts reside. Also make sure you clean the rubber disc that makes contact with the shutter wheel. You can use alcohol here as well, and a Q tip. You may also want to read what I wrote back in 2020 about changing belts on these FP-Series machines. I included a few photos at that post to help other's. https://8mmforum.film-tech.com/vbb/f...fp-c-projector
