Hello Russ, surely it will be a problem of some spring of the mechanism to give traction. I also have 2 st-1200 and in one of them the same thing happens to you. For me it is a problem, the operation of the projector is correct. I enclose a couple of screenshots of the manual. Greetings!

Advice needed on an ST1200D problem.
Hi everyone and apologies if this has been addressed before.
I dug out one of my ST1200D's a couple of nights ago as it hasn't been used for a while and i dont think leaving em stood dormant for a long while does old projectors any good.
Anyway back to the issue, when i turn the selector switch to the first position which i think is to thread the film either forward or back nothing happens i moved it to the next position [project film] and the reels turn and the light comes on albeit a little slow at first but that soon rights itself i put it down to being cold and not used for a while.I tried the other one and it seems to work fine the reelas start to turn at when in position 1,has anyone come accross this before.RussTags: None
