Last night and its been a while since I last used my old ST1200 this projector I had bought second hand way back in 1979. A few years ago I went through the guides and sorted them out for wear. The projector ran like a swiss watch, it was a bit of a trip back in time. First of was the 400 footer of "Star Wars" which really didn't look that back fade wise, Second was "Buck Rogers" U8 2/400ft, plus the 200 footer that was spliced on the front, all on one 800ft reel. I will have to some do more screenings with the ST1200 later on.

We had a contest at CineSea 12 for the absolute worst narration job on a digest film! (-kind of like an ugly sweater contest...)

The winner was Paul Suchy's Columbia Bye Bye Birdie Digest.

Paul won the contest without actually having to watch the thing! (He stayed home and mailed it in...)

Those AWFUl voice over narrations... I have yet to see a digest that had one where it added anything. A total distraction and it’ll take you right out of enjoying a pretty good digest.

A mixed bag tonight in the Man Cave.

    The list looks like this....

The Treasures of Chartwell - 1x 200' - A look at the house and grounds where Sir Winston Churchill lived from 1922 onwards.

Girls Girls Girls - 1x 400' - Elvis Presley. Just picked up the soundtrack cd so thought it would be good to "watch" the songs, too !

    Alien - 1x 400' - Sigourney Weaver and friends.

The Poseidon Adventure - 1x 400' - A good edit, not withstanding the voice over narration. Nice to see Mr. Hackman at his best. Still great colour, too !

The Lady Vanishes - 4x 400' - Margaret Lockwood in the Hitchcock classic. A Walton film.

No, Brian. Just a genuine spling mistak on my behalf.

    Good edit, though.

Melvin, I think the film is The Curse of the Crimson Altar, not Alter - despite listing on the Derann used films lists having that spelling several times. Or was that a subtle joke from you or indication that you bought it from one of this listings?

Me too, Doug. My problem is that mine is on 1x1200' spool and my GS1200 is on the blink at the moment and is the only one with that capacity.

    Anyway.... to last night....

Fun in Florida - 1x 200' - Travelogue from Castle Films

    California - The Golden State - 1x 200' - Travelogue as above

The Cinema Steps Out - 1x 200' - Interesting documentary from the Look at Life series

Review of 1964 - 1x 200' - Black and white printed on colour film I suspect. Picture quality is superb, though.

The Curse of The Crimson Alter - 1x 200' - Christopher Lee, Mark Eden (Alan Bradley for all UK Coronation Street fans) and did I spot Boris Karloff ?

The Godfather - 2x 600' - What a superb edit of what is such a long film.

The Godfather Part 2 - 2x 600' - Not so good edit but still really worth watching.

Gremlins - Derann 2x600', mono version.

It had been a long time since I last screened this. A very nice print with an excellent edit by Keith Wilton.

Gave the GS1200 a run last night with my favorite Scope reel, all the following films are on one Elmo 1200ft reel, with "The Never Ending Story" due out soon from Imprint, which I must add I wont be getting as its very expensive which I should add has everything in in it except the kitchen sink, well almost. I thought I would run the old Derann print I bought from them long ago. I did start to think that this print had slight fade 20 odd years ago but to date it still looks the same, so I was wrong. Anyway I still consider this Scope release to be one of the best 600ft digests that Derann released.

A couple of previous screen shots below which includes "She Flies" a must in scope and "Peter Pan" 2005 the live version trl, and of course "Super 8 The Movie" which back in the day we ran both the 35mm prints.

A few trailers for me too. Robin Hood (Errol Flynn) just arrived new from CHC, the re-release trailer - low grain and great colour. Phil said that due to delays he had cancelled the order with the lab but they actually arrived so were mentioed in the last newsletter. Also Two Gone with the Wind trailers, one the original, one the re-release trailer for the 70mm stereo version (which has much better colour.

No film shows in the Man Cave for the last 4 or 5 weeks or so. The reason is that I have just been on a trip...... across the pond, no less ! No, it wasn't to the USA on this occasion, but much further south. I was island hopping in the Caribbean visiting such places as St.Kitts, Barbados, St.Lucia, St.Maartens, Grenada, Antigua and several more. As you can guess, it was fantastic. I took a lot of video when there, so I have a huge editing job in front of me....not that I am complaining. Sadly no super 8 though.

Anyway, tonight, it was business as usual up there with the following programme of films....

    The Fog - 1x 50' - Trailer

Soda Squirt - 1x 200' - A Flip the Frog cartoon featuring caricatures of Laurel & Hardy, The Marx Brothers, Mae West and others.

Warner Brothers 25th Anniversary - 1x 200' - A Who's Who of stars on their books all those years ago.

Star Trek - "Space Seed" - 3x 400' - The one with Ricardo Montalban as Khan, who re-appeared in the film Star Trek II

The Ghost of St.Michaels - 4x 400' - Will Hay comedy also starring a very young Charles Hawtrey.
