It seems that part of the bottom panel can be removed, possibly for access to what could be a voltage selector.

I am going to say 'No', there was not a cover. Firstly, what would it be protecting, and secondly, the way the holes are placed, the cover would not be remotely flush with any of the other surfaces. It would look awful, which is not (from my limited experience) how this particular manufacturer rolls. More likely those are vent holes for an internal fan or something similar.

Of course, as I said, 'limited experience' and could well be wrong!

If I'm not mistaken that bottom opening is for adjusting some internal autoload mechanism or so. The upper holes would be for securing internal reel arm screws.
