I've got one of these, which I bought new back in the mid-70's, and it has seen intermittent use over the years. Always worked great, but recently (you guessed it) the projector bulb burned out. So, I figured I'd just go online and order a new one, for...what? Maybe $20, $30, ??? Yeah, *right*, turns out those bulbs are well over $100.00 !! There's no way I'm paying that, so my question is, is there a way to retrofit a different (affordable) bulb into this projector to make it operational again? Any info appreciated...thanks.

I don't know anything about this projector, so I searched old Forums for some help.
It appear the lamp used is a 150 watts at 125 volts which is now obsolete.
My search brought me to this kit for a replacement lamp.
Do you think it may interest you?

Welcome Rick! I have done a lamp upgrade on several of these Gaf projectors. There are some how to threads I've added to the technical topics thread. You just need to make sure you get a halogen replacement bulb that matches the volt and wattage of the original bulb but the upgrade connection is the same for all the models.

UPDATE: When I opened up the projector, it has a label next to the lamp that says to use only 80W 30V DMD or DGB lamps; however, the bulb in the projector is a DFE 80W 30V. But, I see that some of the conversions are using a 120V 150W bulb. Am I missing something here? I don't see how a 30V power source can run a 120V lamp.Last edited by Rick Adkins; February 25, 2023, 02:33 PM.

Only use a 30v 80w ELB mr16 base bulb if that is indicated on the projector. They range in price so just search for the cheapest one that will ship to you. Amazon had a couple bulbs had a good price but they would not ship to my address but you may not have that problem. Bulb America is another good source... A little more expensive but I have always had good service from them.
