  • Fujicascope MG 90 Bulb Stopped

I got a Fujicascope MG 90, and have spent the past few days watching through all the films I have. After having fun watching through everything I finally pulled out my camera and started setting it up to record to digital which is why I got the projector in the first place. The moment I flipped it to start playing after getting the framing perfect of course the bulb stops lighting up. I assume I need to just replace the bulb, but I had some questions since I'm so new and don't really know what I'm doing.

When the projector bulb went out, the light that lights up the Super 8/Regular 8 switch also went out. Does this going out mean that there may be a deeper problem than just replacing the main bulb?

Also, I see a lot of discussion on here about replacing the old halogens with an LED instead. How do I go about finding that? Van-Eck has the part listed for this projector, but I don't really know how to translate that for searching for an LED. I'm in the US if there's a preferred store here (B&H?).

I believe the light that lights up the standard 8/ Super 8 indicator is just using the lamp from the projector to shine through the indicator and illuminate it...pretty standard practice on dual 8 projectors. Replacing the projector lamp will solve your problem.

Initially I'm about to confirm Joseph's comment. But on further inspection maybe it's not the case.

(Image shamelessly "borrowed" from Van Eck's, where else?)

As it can be clearly seen that the S8/R8 lever is further up there, quite far away from the main projection lamp.

With the rear cover removed you can kinda see a lamp socket where the indicator lamp is supposed to be. So it is definitely the separate lamp.

But since you mentioned that BOTH lamps went out at the same time, maybe there's something else that caused the issue. I suggest to have a multimeter to check out the voltage at each terminal fist before proceed.

Also check the lamp with the multimeter on Ohms to check if it has failed, the filament may be intact bit the connection from there to the pins can fail. I've had that happen on one brand of lamp. If that is good it points to failure elsewhere.
