  • Kodak updated their Super 8 Camera Sizzle Reel.

Some nice examples here. Kodak says it was all shot on their new camera, but I would also like to know how they transferred, graded, etc. Did they run the bits thru some sort of image stabilization?

This showreel looks better than the one they had posted earlier--I can't find it now but had footage of the SF cable cars...

After reading the spec sheet for Kodak's new product (does it have a name yet other than "Super Eight Camera?"), I'm starting to reconsider. Too bad you can't go to a camera shop and see it in person.

To get some perspective on price, in 1977 a Beaulieu 4008 ZM II body only listed for $1,600. That's almost 9K in today's dollars. I'm sure that dealers discounted that price and nobody probably paid that much. But in light of that figure, the price for the new Kodak isn't that far off line.

Interesting that they included a couple of throwback "crappy super 8" effects - dirt and lint in the gate, and light leaks.

I think they were trying to show the format in use by both professionals and those new to film. So they mixed professional "cinematic" shots with overexposed, out-of-focus shaky-cam footage--the classic "super 8 look" that the film industry has used for decades to signify "home movies."

The best feature incorporated into that camera seems to be the wide angle lens.

Is Kodak offering any type of package deals (in-house processing+scanning) to go along with this new camera?

If you want to get it for your Fujica ZC1000 or your Beaulieu C-Mount camera:

No. So far, the camera is only for sale in the USA, while the only Kodak-lab that can process S8 is in the UK:

So, in the US, you’ll have to contact Pro8mm, Spectra or FPP for bundles.

I'm sure I read somewhere , when the camera was first announced in 2016, that Kodak were bring back the film and process in one price, akin to the old Kodachrome K40. If they did roll this out, I am sure it would attract more customers, my students are always saying, where do i buy film, then where do I send for processing. If Kodak put their weight behind an all included film package, they would attract more people. Simply put the exposed film in the Kodak envelope, send it off, back it comes two weeks later et al.

I was hoping it would be a package Film + Process + Scan delivered to a sharepoint type site where you can fetch the video files. That's what I thought I remember them saying, but it's been a long time....
