Some of this might be from digital granted. The Title on the screen 'Reel Collector Favourites' has obviously been done in digital and the final 'The End' possibly also. But the picture is stunning and quite frankly I'm not bothered when the quality is this good. I get to have the fun of running this on a Super 8 projector and I can't personally tell it's not film as it looks film to me when watching it, and like I said the picture is stunning. I think the Jurassic Park 600ft release was digitally enhanced and that is also stunning. It may not please the celluloid purist but digital is the way to go these days particularly when it's difficult finding good master material.

Well done Lee, you should be congratulated on getting this onto Super 8, particularly with the cost and hours of work you have put into this.

Great Idea! It is definitely a reel that pulls you in from the get go, but then again there are purists who have a point

I agree, all new releases are to be commended without doubt. I only meant that copying discs to film seems odd to me. it is sad that film can no longer be made the proper way but this is a good substitute, i can see the images look very good indeed but i can also see it isn't film, but i hope they sell well but wont be for me.
Out of interest, if there should be any stripe problems with a copy in months to come, will the sellers be able to take the prints back and put it put right?

I remember the days when even the mere mention of digital and celluloid in the same breath would have brought a wrath of Frankenstein villager purists. How times have changed. Guess the Vikings have been converted.

          What next legalising weed?

They wont turn pink but may turn silent ?? (just kidding) im sure it will get resolved but it will need to convince the collectors.

When i came back into the hobby at around the time pre stripe was fazed out and reading about Deranns new oxide stripe i was surprised to see that kodak would no longer supply this as there was still good demand.
I only have a few feature films on super 8 but it is very clear which ones have the new oxide, the sound is not perfect but the worst of it is the hiss and pops you can get. Also, when i spoke with a repair specialist where i live many years ago, i was told how much glue is used to keep it on the film and how abrasive it is on the heads of the projectors.

Quentin Tarantino has some nice things to day about digital:

Anything that supports keeping film alive is good. If the public decides they want to see motion pictures on film in the future, and nobody makes motion picture film anymore, then film will no longer be in decline; it will be dead.

Tarantino puts it perfectly, digital is just big TV in public, the problem is, todays generation dont know any different. It's all about the money, projectionists, gone, start of the show in multiple locations with the flick of a button by one person. No more reels of film being shipped around the world by expensive courier's, no more film prints going missing into the hands of rouge projectionists, (a minority, but it happened), i can name one who sells prints on ebay but i wont. Sadly, modern times is killing off so many trades.

I dont know any youngsters who want to see what a real film looks like, there all happy watching films, or youtube clips of films on their silly phones and laptops. A shame, but i guess its the modern times. I wish i had children to share my few films with.
At least we can all still enjoy them.

                    Good interview Ed

When the change over to Digital, don't forget it was the film companies themselves who destroyed many good film prints, as with the cinemas with the disposal of really good modern film projectors etc like the Kinoton, all going to scrap. They were making sure that there was no way of going back to 35mm film presentation.

This is a review thread for a specific title. If you'd like to continue on with a discussion about film vs. digital, please start a new topic.

                          Thank you for the comments.
Those of us who are doing this for love of 8mm also helping preserve the traditions of a 8mm community intact against the onslaught of the flying disc and other factors thank the number of collectors who support our efforts.
                          = Cultiral heritage.

Proof that, despite the thread on another (DVD) forum suggesting it, that physical media are NOT dying out.

Well that's a wrap and lovely to hear folk have REELLY enjoyed this variety reel also helping in supporting it. Those who do stump up the thousands are never going to break even, not even near but to keep the S8 movement going with new material is key to our love of film I believe anyway.
More to come from around the globe and long may it continue.
The new prints are well saturated and defined, I would go as far to say the best S8 I have ever seen in my life span.
