  • Automatic postprocessing after transfer

    Dear all,

I have bought a Reflecta normal 8 super 8 scanner to rescan about 100 normal 8 and super 8 movies.
The originals vary widely in age (1940-1988) ranging from very grainy black and whites, and color films that have turned completely blue - to some decent black and white and color movies.
The output is clearly far from professional quality, but still *much* better then the scan that I received form a service 20 years ago.
At the same time I would like to improve it further by (at least mostly) automated post processing, as I neither have the skills, tools, or time to do heavy editing by hand myself. Would anyone have a recommendation on what program to use (on a PC)?
I am looking to remove noise, scratches, improve clarity and definition, color balance, possibly stabilize.

    Thank you,
    Istvan

If you're not into scripting ie AVISynth, for noise reduction, it's hard to beat Neat Video. It is a plugin for the popular video editors and also Virtual Dub. It is very good at removing grainy, staticy noise as well as dust and scratches. It will largely neutralise mild cine flicker.

      Hi!

Of course, NeatVideo is the best solution.
But on windows, you can also try „Film9“:
      https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/...m%29-and-video
It isn’t updated anymore, but it’s free.

When you don’t have a proper video editing program yet, give the free version of DaVinci Resolve a try: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/de/...avinciresolve/
It allows color correction (including some „auto modes“), … and would accept NeatVideo as a plug-in.
