I had the pleasure of working on a concert with him at the congress theatre Eastbourne back in the 90s, that involve film projection.
After the dress rehearsal there was several hours to kill before the actual performance. He asked me if I would allow him up into the projection room.
I spent a couple of hours with him teaching how to lace up the DP70 projector, and then starting the show. He seemed so genuinely grateful to have this opportunity and experience, especially when you are projecting onto a 120 ft screen.
He was a lovely man and will be missed by many.

A familiar face at the Ealing conventions. As Brian has said, he was the conventions patron. BBC news ran an obituary to him yesterday. I always remember him making me and my late sister laugh in "George & Mildred" when we were little kids; our favourite scenes were of him sitting in bed eating pickled onions out of a jar!
