  • I'd love to see Tora in its restored Blu-ray version! Perhaps it's just me, but, while those most recent screenshots are indeed sharp, it just seems like the color is limited to variations of too intense of oranges and navy blues. The original release had a wide range of colors.

    • Invisible Invaders entertaining nonsense from 1959. Starring John Agar and John Carradine. The scientist John Carradine 👻is killed in a nuclear explosion. At his funeral an invisible alien 👽 takes over his dead body. He visits a fellow scientist bit of a shock 😱 for him. The alien announces they have been living in the moon for years and because of the use of nuclear weapons they have decided to take over the Earth in 24 hours with an invasion using the bodies of dead. You can guess the rest of the story.

Trailer attached Night of the Living Dead meets Plan 9 from Outer Space.

You can actually see the “Am I really in this movie” expressions on the faces of the actors.

      • Back in the 1980s Australian director Peter Weir made a couple of films both starring Harrison Ford. One being in 1985 "Witness", a year later "The Mosquito Coast" in 1986. Although both had been released in DVD for a few years now, upgrading to blu-ray quality I was very interested in doing. I did manage to get "Witness" locally but has to go to Spain for "The Mosquito Coast" , navigating through the menu for the Ingles track "English" is fairly straight forward.

The picture quality is very good as with the English Soundtrack.

"The Mosquito Coast" is based on the 1981 novel by Paul Theroux although its not a film for everyone, the film stars as well as Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren who still looks as good today as she was when she made this one way back in 1986, River Phoenix who was later to star as the young Indiana Jones in "The Last crusade" 1989.

Director Peter Weir went on to direct "Master Commander" 2003, but for me both the 1980s films "Witness" and "The Mosquito Coast" are the ones I like the most, anyway here are a couple of quick screen shots taken from last night.

        • Just going of track a little bit, another popular 1980s film that starred "Helen Mirren" was 2010, One Blu ray of late worth getting she stars in, is "Eye In The Sky" But going back to regarding 2010, the special effects on the blu-ray for some reason don't look very good, compared to the 35mm print and possibly the Super8 Scope print as well .

Sometimes I just have to return to film

PS....Just a thought has anyone here got a 16mm print of "The Mosquito Coast"?

          • For me this has to be one of the most movies I have watched on blu-ray more than once. Interstellar is a long one but incredibly well done, the image does switch from 2;40 to the Imax ratio a number of times so I really need a bigger screen .

That was it for me again last night

              • We watched a true classic tonight, "Sorcerer", 1977, Roy Scheider. They honestly don't make films like this anymore. It is made all the more harrowing, in that this was made before the age of CGI, and even the stunt men really risked they're lives on this one.

                    • Well folks if you don't mind watching a film in Japanese language with English sub-titles directed by Clint Eastwood as a follow on to "Flags of our Fathers", then out of the two films "Letters from Iwo Jima" is the one I would highly recommend.

I first watched "Letters from Iwo Jima" at a central city cinema, but after watching it, I thought we could a lot better with a larger picture but more importantly we had a much better sound system. It took months to get a 35mm print, and when I did, some the cinema staff thought I was nuts, its Hornby, its sub-tiles I was told, wont work. I even put it on our large screen at a 8pm Saturday time slot.

Well as we were the only ones running it as the larger multi-plexes never did, happily it worked, people came from different parts of the city after seeing it advertised, and much to my relief it did well. I even had customers thank me for putting on afterwards, that had never been to the Hornby cinema before. It was a gamble that thankfully paid of

I still have the brilliant "movie poster" hanging up in our we home cinema plus the 35mm trls.

Tonight I watched the blu-ray using the Epson VP and it was great to watch it again, however getting my hands on a 35mm print would even be better.

A couple of screen shots from tonight screening

                          • I like the box to "Logan's Run"! I have this scope super 8 feature, but I have always been annoyed by the 70's esque color scheme for the film. Could you put up shots from the Blu-ray?

                            • Osi, Logan Run was made in 1976 so it will have 70’s colour styling.

                              • Hi Osi

I didn't take any screen shots this time around, but have a couple from a past one "Logan's Run" as a Scope feature on Super 8 is one film I regret not getting back during the good ole Derann days.

I don't think those following older screen shots are as good as the actual blu-ray image itself.
