The 2023 Oscars: Everything Everywhere all at Once

The last time a show of this kind was any good for the reasons that the host, Ricky Gervais told a few home truths and upset a few luvvies, Tom Hanks face said it all, no one can take a bit of mockery any more, to far up their own backsides, this was the golden globes 2020, we need this guy hosting the Oscars.

Last years Oscars with the "slap" was another show for the cameras as far as I'm concerned, they needed to something for the news headlines to get people watching it again.

Today we are in a time where remakes or Marvel movies are the only films anyone seems to be able to make. Someone who dares to make a real film like Top Gun Maverick, Elvis, Banshees of Inisherin and all quite on the western front all pretty much snubbed seems now unlikely to win an award on merit.

Oh if Ricky would compete the Oscars I would watch. He gutted them at the Golden Globes and it was a classic to watch. Talk about the Emperor having no clothes.

Kudos for being honest. Now, which films (that you never watched) do you hate the most? The Oscars have been irrelevant for at least a decade now. Just one more decade to go before the Academy realizes they are boring the world.

I used to enjoy the Oscars and held on for awhile as the decline accelerated. I went so far as to record the show, so that I could skip the boring parts. The last time I did this I went through the whole show in about 45 minutes (a generous estimate on my part).

I always enjoyed Ricky Cervais hosting the Golden Globes. They took a hit from the 2021 LA Times investigation, and when Ricky bowed out, my interest dropped.

Ed I like to think I am pretty broad minded but those British "Carry On" films are right at the at the top of my yuk list, always thought they looked stupid, never understood how folk thought they were funny, boring more like it anyway that's just my humble opinion. I am sure there are folk out there think they are great, so I won't say to much.

The difference is,no carry on films won Oscars, they were simply good money makers. This film won Oscars for reasons ordinary people cant understand, though im sure many people can work out why. I notice this year the lack of groups that normally moan because they didnt win or she didnt win were absent. Thats because this year all boxes were ticked. The film clearly didnt matter, it was secondary to the must do's.

I think also Osi is that when I think about it, Scottish humor can be different from those from South of the border in England, likewise American humor can be different again, I guess, that can come from our different backgrounds.

In saying that above I do like the English series and films of "On The Buses"

PS I am really out of touch with the Oscars, confused did they do another "All Quiet On The Western Front" the original was brilliant and has been fully restored why do a remake?, plus it was also done again back in 1979 starring Ernest Borgnine.

PSS Regarding my comments about the Carry On Films was a reply to Ed above asking me the question as to what films I hate the most?, nothing to do with the Oscars by the way, sorry for going of topic.

I finally got the watch The Whale and although it is a heavy watch (no pun intended), it is a very good film and I think Brendan Frazer deserves that Oscar. In fact the entire cast played well.

interesting that it was also shot in 4:3 aspect ratio just like Living although the latter being set in the 50s or 60s makes sense I guess.

I am not a huge fan of the Top gun films, however, I do recognise a well made film, a story, a big star (whether you like Tom Cruise or not), they are all the ingredients to attract an audience. The film had a few set backs including the pandemic, it was a huge release and the highest-grossing film of Cruise's career. It is the film that got everyone back to the cinema as the figures and critical responses show.

But it was all in vain, the awards went to this pile of crap. I wonder if the judges got it wrong and thought is was the raspberry awards
Anyone in the film industry who isn't embarrassed by all of this Hollywood trash must support it or they have just lost touch, words fail me!

If you go back to the Will Smith nonsense, no one said anything about his Wife who could easily have held him back and said it was just a joke, a bit of banter, no, she wanted the attention and made a face and sat there while he made a total clown of himself by shouting and swearing, no security, no one bothering to get involved. The whole thing stinks of a put on to attract attention to a show that so few people talk about any more.

.... or, it could have been the case, and fact, that on the carpet, earlier that very day, (I watched the interview), the woman interviewing Will and his wife was making jokes at they're expense, Will might we'll have already been seething about the earlier inappropriate jokes, and when Chris Idiot Rock, who has made a living out of bad mouthing people on stage and never being called out on it, and not knowing Will Smith's wife's scalp condition, ignorantly slams Smith's wife, had had enuf! Someone bad mouths my wife, I'll clobber him. Call me an uncivilized neanderthal if you will, but that's what happens if you have so little character to do something like that. In regards to Top Gun, I agree that Top Gun should have received some recognition as well, but the Academy has had a long history of literally, out of spite denying and ignoring what the public likes. It's part of that arrogance that elitists have towards the audience in general.

The whole Will Smith thing was nonsense, maybe people were taking the P*** but it's called banter, it wasn't said in an insulting way, Chris Rock's a comedian so it should have been laughed off. When Ricky Gervais took to the stage in the Golden Globes he slaughtered everyone, no got up to slap him, if they did he would have given it back. The only gretin who took offense was Tom, "up his own arse" Hanks, another luvvy who cant take a joke.

It may be at someone's expense, but these days it appears people get mental health issues when they are on the receiving end, the clever people laugh it off.

How about this for a remake. The Odd Couple. Mel Gibson and Will Smith as Oscar and Felix with Bill Cosby as Wills Dad. Directed by Roman Polanski Produced buy Harvey Weinstein with soundtrack by Gary Glitter. Mind you three of them have to get out of prison 😂😂😂😂
