The 2023 Oscars: Everything Everywhere all at Once

This film swept up seven Oscar’s including best picture. I have to say Hollywood is dead. This is total garbage fro opening to closing. The story is not clever it is a hyped up piece of technobabble trying to passed of as high art. The performances are
uniformly awful. Jamie Lee Curtis goes on to prove she has non of her parents skill. Michele Yeoh is painful to watch. How can this crap get seven Oscar’s!!

if you look back at previous Oscar winning best pictures the decline is obvious.

The Bridge On The River Kwai, The Apartment, Marty, The Sound of Music, On The Waterfront, Ben Hur, Gigi, West Side Story
to name just a few of the rich legacy of Oscar Winners.

in recent times you get, The Shape of Water, Everything Everywhere all at Once and films like ‘The Whale’ with Brendan Fraser as best actor???

if I had a time machine I would go back to the 40’s 50’s 60’s and 70’s and never come back!

Phil , you are so right with your comments. It seems films have lost their way, I don’t go to the “flix” anymore , I prefer to watch films from my own collection. My family stayed over this weekend I screened Brief Encounter for them. Now there’s an absolute belter of a proper film, it got a great thumbs up. One of my favourites of all time , just has so much
class and beautifully acted and photographed.😄👍

I haven't seen the big Oscar winner yet, I might just download a file of it. The one nice moment I must say is seeing Key hu Quan win an Oscar. We all remember h from the Goonies and, of course, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, but I certainly agree that the quality of films in general has fallen. Oftentimes, it seems like the main reason to award a best picture Oscar is to get people to see the tripe. I wouldn't be surprised if some major pay offs from producers of films, go into pockets of those who vote. I can say, thus far, for the last twenty years, I have seen all the best Oscar winners, and I must say, I have walked away from these films saying, "THAT, won the best picture Oscar!?"

All things considered, I think we are witnessing the death throws of the cinema industry that we all know , and used to love. You look back at the glory days of the big studios who were all flush with truly great artists - actors, musicians, writers, and what have we today? The bar for cinema greatness has been lowered so far it is now hitting the ground!
But TV is no better, I have access to hundreds of channels and it seems like garbage on all of them.
Thank god for the home cinema.

'Everything Everywhere... ' I saw some time ago and was really disappointed. It was just so silly. Certainly not a Best Picture. I also thought 'All Quiet On The Western Front' shouldn't have been in contention simply because it is, what 3rd time around, at least? I don't think remakes can be nominated.

There have been many great films that have been released since the titles everyone has mentioned. Banshees of Inisherin which was nominated this year was a great film. Licorice Pizza from last year was another great film. LaLa Land…so many great films. I would have loved to see a print of LaLa Land on film.

In the book The Making of King Kong by George Turner & Orville Goldner there was a chapter in it called Do You Remember Cavalcade? The Academy has always been quirky. What movie do you most remember from 1933. King Kong of course. Cavalcade was the best picture winner.

I think the Oscars are a disgrace,they clearly dont know much about film to award that utter crap movie with all those awards. Its obvious they are just keeping certain groups of people happy. Top gun maverick was kicked in goolies.

I think the Oscars have always been a bout promotion of certain films and the industry. They may have gone too far this time, but how could they top last year's with that slap incident???

I rarely disagree with Paul, but I must say that TV has been the most fertile ground for the better things to watch these days, but I must confess, that perhaps the bar has fallen so low, that the mediocre, has become the high bar, as expectations are so limited today.

I think something has gone wrong in the past few years The B A F T A awards are far superior in all respect. It seems to me that the OSCARs are biased towards Hollywood these days. Apologies if this upsets our U.S. friends but this is my personal opinion. Do you get the opportunity to see films from other countries as much as we do in the u.k.? Ken Finch😏

It goes way beyond that, Ken! The Oscars really lost any real credibility, when they released a few years ago, those requirements for even being in contention for an Oscar. I.e. you must have a certain number of alternative lifestyle people either in front or behind the camera. Don't get me wrong, I would be just as upset if it was this or that religion that was required. The requirements pervert the whole process, not that the Oscars were purile to begin with, but at least any film could be in contention. I believe that at some point, it will either mean the end of the Oscars, or it will really become A non entity that no one really cares about anymore.
