I just realized I posted this in the wrong forum...but does anybody know anything about the SINGER 16mm INSTALOAD /XL PROJECTOR? Someone in my area has one for sale for $115...he says it has a SUPER SESTAR LENS..I don't know what that is. I don't personally have any 16mm film...but I do have cousins that have some 16mm films my grandmother took. It would be great to find a machine to play them on. It looks like a simple machine to operate...but any feedback would be appreciated.

Turns out this projector was used at the old Army base in San Francisco. It was not in excellent condition...so I passed on this one

Janice I have a Singer Slot loader "had it for years" now stored for bits and to be honest its not one of the best 16mm around, so I think you did the right thing avoiding it.

Hi Janice,
I have a couple of Bell & Howell Specialists, you know...'The Green Machines'. Well, I have a couple of them...one only needs a new belt for the take up reel. I've never tried to power the other one.
If you are ever in Berkeley, come by and pick one up for free. I have some 16mm educational films that I'll include too.
P.S. some of these Singers (even the roughed up ones) are very quiet, and easy to thread...like a sewing machine.

Cool Gerald...I'd love to take one of your B&H Kermit "it's not easy being green" machines off your hands. I haven't been up to Berkley for years, but maybe it's about time for a little trip.
I'll be in touch and see if we can workout a convenient date and time.

Hey Janice,
Glad you wanna "go green" and recycle one of these or both if you want them...I already have too many and not enough space.
Come by on a Sunday when our film club has a screening and I can bring them then...
Hey Winbert,
Yes, Singer stopped production on sewing machines and started to manufacture weapons during WW2. Pistols made from this time are sought after from collectors. They also made early phototype setting machines and acquired Graflex (at one time part of Kodak) in 1968, making these projectors until 1973.
