Has anyone else noticed this phenomena? I have two different prints that make me scratch my head...the first being a faded copy of Clash of the Titans through MGM. The second is a Niles print of the feature The Pearls of the South Pacific, with Fair/Faded Color.

I didn't pay much attention at first, but I noticed that Clash of the Titans night scenes are very red, while the day scenes are turning red, meanwhile the underwater scenes with Poseidon still have good color. Last night I screened "Pearls", and noticed the film still had a little color in it; reds, orange, yellow, some blues. The night scenes seem dark, while the day scenes look like they are fading, meanwhile there are a few underwater scenes and guess what... very GOOD color!

Has anyone else noticed this or does anyone know why underwater scenes hold their color?

Gerald,

Most underwater scenes have a very strong blue cast, so the shift to red is hardly noticeable.
