Well I have been so busy the past month or so trying to get Steve Osborne's Bolex mag striper up n running.. It was first sent to Osi who eventually sent it to me to try and salvage it but after replacing the belt, fabricating new reel clamps, removing the old frozen pieces, cleaning, and testing I came to the realization that it just wasn't working (not to mention that the sprocket wheel actually had one broken sprocket on it) nor would it probably ever do a good job..
Luckily I was able to acquire a very clean one from Germany. I swapped out the 110 motor from Steve's and replaced the 220 German one, did some cleaning and ran a test yesterday that for all visible inspections was a successful one. The next step when I get some time next month will be to fully stripe a reel on both sides, record some sound and then run the reel multiple times to see how it all fairs.

Just my curiosity, is the magnetic tape still available in the market? or can we make it by cutting the available magnetic tape, eg. reel to reel tape?

Fantastic Dino! I couldn't get it to work either, but at least you were able to piece one great unit out of two! KUDO's!!!
By the way, what kind of fixative did you use?

I have a nice working weberling dual Main/Balance striper I bought off eBay Germany. I had been using an voltage adapter. It puts down main/balance at the same time. Paul Yost sent me some great instructions on how to use it. He still may have some stripe as well as Konton. I'll have to contact them both. Also have a small main striper you use with a projector. (Name is escaping me!) I have a fair amount of stripe for it as well. I'm very interested to see if you succeed in getting the Bolex up and runing! Cheers,

Not unless there is anyone in the US, Adam. No one in the UK anymore which is why we are having to send our prints to Andec in Germany.

Ha, you beat me to this question Brad, I have one of these machines too, but I'm don't think it can attach the balance stripe. I hope I'm wrong on this though, as I have a few features to stripe up in the coming months.

Doesn't film without the balance stripe not project well? I thought the whole reason for the balance stripe was to balance the weight of the film so one side isn't heavier than the other so the film does't jerk around or sway during viewing. I remember buying a print years ago on line that turned out not having a balance stripe. When I asked the seller about it he said it wore off over the years, but that it played great on his unit. On my Chinon it played so poorly I remember turning it off, reversing the film out of the projector and disposing of it. I couldn't get a refund because the print was in excellent shape so it came down to it wasn't his fault my machine couldn't cope.

Brad, it seems that the balance strip, in addition of giving the same thickness on both side and permitting stereo sound, protects a little bit the film from lines (which was an unexpected "side effect").
