Hello to the Forum:

Open question for any that know:

I have a chance to buy an Elmo ST-800 from a private seller. I've seen the machine and it looks very good. He wants around $150. (He recently put in new belts.)

What do you think of this projector in terms of reliability, image quality, sound quality (Hum for example.)

I know this is a great brand name, but I've not heard a lot about this model.

Hi Steve

The Elmo 800 is a good machine.

Its 100 watt light output 800ft capacity and usually 1.2 or 1.3 lens.

It can be a a little tempermental with older film stocks but
should give good service and be worth the money.

Take a few shorts out to test sound on the projector.

Ideally, take a short reel of new clear leader and run it through projector three or four times. This will show whether projector is marking film which will would cause scratching.

It definitely worth the price he's asking if its been well
maintained.

Steve, I agree with Mike. I'm very happy with my ST-800 and I use it a lot. I find it to be very reliable and fairly quiet, with very good picture and sound quality(mine is connected to an external speaker cabinet using an SC-002 adapter from the EXT. SP outlet of the projector). Plus,the EIKO brand EFP lamps I use in it cost only $12.25 + tax at the local electronics supply co.

Yes I have a very similar machine a ST180M which does 600ft but is basically the same machine. These are great projectors and as Joe says the lamps are readily available so thats good to remember when running long films as you dont want to be concerned about a bulb going. Imagine having a projector where the bulb is hard to source or costs the earth!!!
