hello.

i bought not long ago a stock of 40 rubber bands
to hold around film tightly.

the same size good from 50ft- 400ft.
400ft. is even tighter.

is it good for film to be on the long run so tightup with a rubber band. does the film 'sticks' over the years?

In my opinion, that is not a very good idea. Rubber bands can either put too much tension or with age ... not enough. Plus rubber bands deteriorate and harden in a short time and can often stick onto the emulsion of the film.

I recommend a good, archival hold-down tape. The Film Forever Company sells such a product. You can write them at:

Hi Moshe,

Rubber bands are okay, thy can also slip into the reel making it difficult to take off. Try cutting a thin rectangular piece of cardboard about the size of your pinky and fold that into the reel.

Hi Moshe, there was an Italian chap on this very forum last year
who manufactured very sensible well made reel clips.I'm sure
there'll be other members with a better memory than mine, that
can think of who it was.In the meantime, Gerald's idea seems
a good one to me.

Hi Maurice, the ones the Italian Gent was selling were a lot deeper
and really looked the business for gripping the film and holding it in place.
