Anybody have any info on who Heritage Films were? Were they UK based or here in the states?

Heritage Films I think was a flag of convenience as part of the Mountain /Portland Films Group of companies. Starline was another name they used. They were based in UK in London. I presume they used different title names for tax purposes or bootlegging reasons when releasing titles they had ripped of other dealers. I remember seeing glamour movies on that title but they also released standard titles as well. The boxes were similar in format to Mountain releases.

Originally run by horror director Pete Walker (HOUSE OF MORTAL SIN, FRIGHTMARE, THE CONFESSIONAL) before being sold to Mountain .

Theres a pretty wild accusation in your post suggesting that Mountain Films reason for using different names was to cover a bootlegging operation. It simply isn't true. The various names were simply marketing 'nom de plumes' and having worked closely we Peter Burt at Mountain over a long period, I can ussure you that were required, licences were paid. When I took over Regent Films in the early 80s, Les Siddall gave me an envelope with his 'secret' contact for wholesale Ken Films U.S. releases, and I asked about the UK releases of Ken printed for Mountain(mostly in Soho) and these were quite legitimate. If you're ever near Wigan!! pop round and I'll tell you the full 8mm story from my side. Apart from working with Mountain, and owning Regent for a while, I was also great friends and one time business partner of Harry Nadler(Delta Films Salford), and ran Phoenix Films in Wigan(later Phoenix Home Leisure) As Phoenix, I released a few 8mm shorts, one of which 'Butterfly Ball' sells for ridiculous money on eBay whenever it turns up, which isn't often, because Buck Labs only produced 50 prints for me.Serous invite, by the way, also applies to any other 8mm old timers, and newbies, its great to talk about 'the old days' steve Ellison

You could provide us all with a wealth of information surrounding our hobby I'm sure Steve, given your insight into "The" business back then as it was. [Wink]

Ever have any dealings with Cyril from Jubilee Films back then?

Thanks again for reminding me Steve of posts past.
As said, it's good to hear he is still doing well. [Smile]

Andrew..I had a coffee with Cyril Owens in the Trafford Centre a couiple of years ago...he lives in Spain and we keep in occasional contact on facebook. Up to three or so years ago Peter Burt of Mountain also lived in Sp[ain, but no up to date news. Most of the other 'big dealer names' have gone, but it would be nice to know if anyone else from the halcyon days of 8mm is still around.

Wish I'd have known Steve. 20 minutes drive away from me. [Wink]

His shop and his shop alone, is the reason I am still a collector now. Without his advice, I would never had known Derann even still existed, back then! (late 80's)

My last film I bought from Cyril's shop was The Black Hole, sealed 400 footer for a fiver. He had a pile of them when he moved over the road to his bigger shop, but by which time he was dealing solely in Video.

His first little shop on 2 floors was pure magic!
I went in it the first week it opened.

Cheapo box and 400 footers downstairs, full features upstairs. My parents back then, didn't like me looking upstairs! [Big Grin] [Wink]

Andrew...the reason Cyril had so many copies of The Black Hole was that he had bought the whole of the remaining stock from Disney...and won some sort of prize for doing so! If you check my friends list on facebook, you can drop him a line!!
