I am looking for a feature print of Hitchcock's The 39 Steps in very good to excellent condition; A couple scratches that don't last long would be acceptable. Email or PM me if you have one you can sell me. Thank you.

Be careful on this one Daniel. I have seen some HORRID super 8 prints of this. I believe the Niles print is in that category, as it is one of those dupes that are so bad that there's not that much difference between sdtaright blacks and whites, and it had a very marginal focus, so stay FAR away from the Niles print. However, if it was released over in the UK by Powell or some other good company, there should be some good ones out there.

Well then, I guess I'll be looking for other Hitchcock titles that are better print quality. Maybe this can be a little Hitchcock topic, while we're at it. For example, do you know anything about quality of Notorious on Super 8? I believe The Reel Image sold Rear Window and Vertigo.

Ken Films did Notorious , and I have heard it's a pretty good print. Ken also released Rebecca, which I own and the print quality is very good (the sound is remarkable too). The only odd thing about the print is that each 400' section ends with a quick fade-out; I guess they didn't anticipate people assembling prints onto larger reels.

Daniel,

I've just had in the PM Films print of "The 39 Steps", 4x400' B/W Sound, I've classified it as a B+ and it has its original boxes too, I'm looking for £90 plus post.

If interested then email me at indi8films@aol.com.

Barry.

P.M. Films were the UK distributor of The 39 Steps in the 4x400ft format running about 72 minutes. Although abridged it is a good job and a nice print too.

I'll just add

The 39 Steps Donat P.M. Films
The 39 Steps More DCR Films
The 39 Steps Powell Walton 400ft and full optical sound

I love the smell of film in the morning.

Thunderbird also released a super 8 print, which is pretty good. The last reel though which is about 200ft of film is a bit dark, but the rest is very good.

Ok, I'll take a chance and try a Niles or Thunderbird print of The 39 Steps. I'm also looking for a print of Notorious. If anyone has any of these they can sell, please contact me. Thanks.

I have that one on super 8 optical sound as well, (the late 70's remake), which still has pretty good color!

Matthew, Thanks for catching this one, but it looks like an edited version. The full feature probably wouldn't fit on 2x800'.

I've a very good Thunderbird print and can sell it (as I prefer the PM one, even it's abridged). If interested please send me a PM.

Matthew, thanks for always catching these, but I think I'm giving up on this search because I only want full-length and I don't think I would be happy with the quality of the full-length versions.

I haven't watched my copy of THE 39 STEPS in a long time, but as I recall it is a very, very good print. I think it is a Niles.
