Hi to all. I love the film collecting hobby, setting up the projector, selecting a print to run etc etc but....with the internet making the world a very small place one thing sometimes bugs me. OK heres the issue, I'm looking thru the for sale adds here at the forum, and say a fellow collector is selling either a print or an item of kit that I want, I check the listing and hey ho they are on the other side of the world, of course we could trade but with postage and import duty (excessive here in England thanks to the thieving government)its a no go. This results in a 'high' of finding something desirabe and a 'low' of realising the headache of trying to get said item back into the country from outside the european union. So, is there a way that to save time and frustration, when a fellow collector sells(or wants) something it could go into a relevent country section first, that way if I want to buy an item from my own country I check the ENGLAND listing first, then I can spread out (same premise as Ebay) What say you all? Thanks and keep those gates clean. And yes I do realise there are collectors from all parts of the world, but I have assumed a basic premise of east and west hemispheres. Cheers

I think that would increase the cost of shipping the item. I am from USA and I have a sister-in-law in Kent. If I buy something that is too expensive to ship or the seller won't ship to USA, I have it sent to her. My wife and I visit Kent every year and I get then item or items then and take them home on the plane.

I suppose the "powers that be" could make "UK sales" and US sales lists, however, unless they are exclusively only for UK or US, then we would simply be in the same position as we are now.

Also, I'm sure it would rankle one side of the pond or the other if, say, a US collector finally sees a long desired print in the UK but it will only be offered to UK collectors, and visa versa if the story took place on the other side of the pond.

I know I would be rankled ...

This is a recurring situation for me, in fact I am involved in one at the moment where I need to have a French hobbyist collect something for me and then resend it overseas because the seller won't ship directly to the US....I have found that most collectors are more than happy to help out their fellow overseas peers...I also have helped many, it is one of the things that keeps the hobby fun since i wind up making new friends this way.... No, I do not mean exclusivity of sales within a given territory, I'm talking about the nullification of expectation at a good find only to note its out of the European Union etc etc. One has to way up both costs of 'importing' the item against value. My positation is not too rankle but to enquire as to the possibility of a regional subsection within the wants and for sale section. Yes if you can collect from a given country, brilliant but if the option is not there and we cannot afford postage/import duty etc etc...it was just a thought anyway. Cheers to all

I see your point of a median, sort of a middle-marketing subsidiary, however this wouldn't be feasible on economic levels - As a collector of (besides film), BONANZA British Annuals, I have a like problem, however all sellers have been extremely co-operative and allow minimal shipping (media), sometimes not - As to films, shipping is high, but when you want something...I plan to visit beautifual England one day and stroll over to CHC, Derann and other outfits along the way, perhaps they will roll out the carpet for Shorty - Cheers

hello shorty things have changed in england so i would
not leave it to long if you plan a visit ?
in regards to buying from the u.s.a the pound
is normaly stronger than the dollar so i find it not to bad

I'm am avid bicylist as well! However, I have also learned that bicylcists are considered speed bumps and targets by your average motorists, (especially those cell phone drivers!)

Hey! Remember what Eric Idle went through in "National Lampoon's European Vacation"? Best part of that film (in my opinion)!

No worries Doug, just thinking about it. I actually love trading with Americans. Shorty, if you ever visit England pop over to the West Country and my home city of Bristol. We have Aardman Animation studios here, Cary Grant was born about 4 miles from me and we have the SS Great Britain (the first iron cruise ship) the last Concorde (which was built in Bristol) and loads more... London is great but Bristol is WOW!

That's a headache for all of us i'm sure....
Living in Greece I sometimes have problem with sellers, especially from ebay, who are unwilling to send here.
Especially US sellers.....i hate seeing all the time the films I want in ebay ending cheap or with no bids...just because the seller blocks international sales [Frown]

Hi Joe, yes you can hail a cab in Bristol. We have the same classic London cabs as you would find in the big smoke (London) but instead of being black our cabs are painted in 'Bristol blue' (derived from the famous class ware from Bristol that happens to be, well, blue)

I have the same problem at times getting films from outside the USA. I ship everywhere. When I sold out my 16mm films I shipped to Russia (134.00 USD for 2x2000') , Egypt, Peru, Buenos Ares etc. I though it was cool to sent to those countries. However, there are times I see a film I have been looking for and the seller won't ship to USA. I even have that problem with some UK sellers. Fortunately I have a sister-in-law in UK that I get them shipped to. Then when we visit I get the films. I was amazed at the countries that had collectors in them.

Hi Shorty, I trust I can use your moniker. We have in Bristol the very famous Bristol Old Vic theatre and school where nmerous famous actors have studied. I am lucky in that the Bristol Old Vic is part of my faculty now, Creative Arts (University of the West of England)

Actually Thomas I want to emmigrate to Canada because the UK is too expensive and over crowded. I'm not overtly 'British' but I am sad to see this country and its heritage being battered down, in most cases to avoid upsetting 'the others', if you get my meaning. What other country would allow Poppies to be burnt as a 'protest' against our over seas conflicts, insulting our dead war heroes? Or the fact that flying the Union flag may upset some people...WHAT!!!!! Hence I want to live in a country where there is resepct for the cultural institutions and a common goal of all people being citizens striving for the same. David Cameron is attempting this in his Big Society Agenda but in a very careful 'don't want to offend anyone' manner. Shame. Have'nt we traded on Ebay? Cheers to all
