He says that this lamp would make a great conversation piece. I can assure him that the original full working Specto would make a much better one! He also says "when they are gone.....", implying that he may be performing more labotomies on these beautiful machines.
I recently purchased a projector lamp from the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store here in the USA. It looks just like a small Pathe Lux with a light and film themed lampshade on top. It cost me $19.95 and no vintage projector was mutilated to make it.

Sacrilege! And it was in previously good working order, too. I have seen this advert before. What a philistine. Unfortunately, old machines are often dumped, so perhaps he would call this a new use for a 'retro' object. I have tried to give away a Bell & Howell blimp projector (UK volts) in working order without any success, in these columns too. Just wanted to give to a good home, but nobody interested, apparently. Sign of the times.

You might have read my earlier post where someone on Preloved wanted a 400ft reel, and would have bought a film I advertised only to throw the film away and keep the empty reel. The film was an extract from 'The Little Ballerina' (1948) one of Lewis Gilbert's first features.
Have you noticed everyone is buying gold or silver for scrap value, doesn't matter about workmanship.
Just checked out his advert, it's the same guy that contacted me. Worse news, he has 11 other projectors from Bolex to Bell & Howell, all mutilated. This guy is a public menace.

This object has already been listed on eBay UK obviously without selling. With no takers there will be no reason for him to ruin another machine.

If it wasn't fixable then ok, but if it worked then there are plenty of collectors! I own one of these projectors.....glad I do as they are excellent

I don;t see the problem...My cousin gave me an original Lumiere Cinematographe from the 1890's..The wood was so beautiful I thought it was being wasted on a silly little box that doesn't have a use anymore so I made it into a gorgeous end table...Its really better off, cuz now people use it..They set their mugs and cups on it...I can even put a projector lamp on it so that all those "purists" out there will be happy.

And not to forget the Group 9-5 film ‘Lights out and the stars appear’ ends with a Pathe Baby projector sprayed silver sat in the middle of the garden in all weathers.

If being a purist means preferring old projectors unconverted and original then I plead guilty. Clearly owners are free to do anything they like to rare projectors but I think any changes or improvements should be reversible without serious damage for the sake of future generations.

To clarify Paul I was of course joking, I think it is pretty horrible when folks destroy perfectly good projectors...I would also be a purist

Dino, Many thanks. I was expecting someone else to say that they had converted an Edison Kinetoscope into a disco light machine! Hey maybe I'm on to something here.
