I thought I'd sign up as I look at posts here every day. I bought a cheap cine camera in the 1970s to record our kids growing up. Later, I got into video camcorders and the old Super 8 and earlier 8mm family films were stored away. Last year, I decided to capture all the old cine footage to my computer. My old GAF projector wasn't up to the job so I picked up a bargain Sankyo 1000 on Ebay although I had to fit a new belt.I couldn't resist another Sankyo 1000 at a bargain price and, again,I had to fit a new belt. Then, I picked up a job lot including a non-working Eumig S 710. After soaking the rubber clutch disks with brake fluid it worked well. Then, I bought another job lot including an Eumig 501 with a broken lens carrier. After repairing it with a paper clip, washer and super glue, I used it to capture all the old cine footage. I've since bought a Prinz Compere which is a modified Eumig 501 for Super 8 and an Eumig S 712 for little money. The latter has a duff amplifer but it's one of the quietest projectors I've owned. I forgot to mention a poorly Eumig 8 which, sadly, is only suitable for spares. The trouble is that I'm running out of room now!

Welcome Will! Glad to have you here [Smile]

Your story is a familiar one.You start with one projector... and then another... and another. You just can't seem to pass up a good deal...RIGHT? Before you know it... you are addicted and have projectors filling up every closet in your house. Not everyone understands our fascination with film and projectors...but it's a great hobby and every projector we repair extends the film lineage a little longer.

Thanks, folks. After digitising,I also edited all my family video footage as well as the cine. The odd thing is that now that all the family footage is on my hard disks, it's only the cine footage that I tend to watch. Even though all my working projectors are, in theory, redundant, I run each one every week.I guess it must be the attraction of having something mechanical which you can maintain unlike today's throwaway products. There's also the magic when that shaft of light hits the screen!

Welcome. As Janice said, be careful, it can be addicting. I started out looking for a good projector to do transfers just like you. I went from 8mm to super 8mm to 16mm silent and then 16mm sound. About 150 projectors later, I am reducing my collection and have not got around to doing transfers!

Will - What a great story! You obtain a projector as means to end any need to project cine film, but you end up rediscovering the unique magic of film once again!

Dare I say that the next step might be to buy a few Super 8 releases to see if you have as much fun watching other 8mm material as you do watching your home movies.

Hi Will:
I have them on racks in the basement. I am down to abot 80 now. I want to get them into the hands of people that will use them. As you noted, projectors should be used, not just stashed away. I am not getting any younger and I know what my wife would do with them if I were to pass.

So right Barry, as we age I've also considered my wife and a house built of Eumigs. I was really pleased my GS xenon's found younger loving arms and I still get mail from the new owners which is really wonderful to hear them enjoying the machines which is the real reward.
Welcome Will!

Welcome Will, from another "Junior!"

David Guest mentioned his film fare in Blackpool in November. That is an absolute MUST for either cine camera's, projectors or films.
Plus, of course, you would get to meet a few of the 8mm Forums British contingent!....... and maybe one or two from further afield???
