Hi all,
I have the Goko sound editor RM5000 which I will use really only to check Super 8mm films instead of setting up my projector.
It has the 6volt 10watt lamp which does give a good picture on the viewer,
but I was wondering if I could improve the brightness if I replaced it with the halogen type shown in the last picture?
Or any other thoughts on this,but if not then I am happy with the lamp it uses :-)

Yes it does improve the light output but only marginally plus there are a greater chance of hot spots on the fresnel screen by using the halogen.

I used my 8008 only today with a halagon lamp in it. I got my lamps originally from E.V.E.

Is the LED pictured 6 volts?

Van Eck sells a compatible Halogen bulb for viewers.

They are Halogen lamps Janice, not L.E D.

Hi Janice, I used that pic just as an example :-)
But the Van-eck lamp says 20 - 30% brighter which sounds like a good increase but I will stick to the lamp already installed until it stops working .... then look at alternatives :-)

@Clinton...I agree...use up the bulb you have first. But... if you ever get the halogen let us know what you think.

@Sorry Andrew the picture looked like an LED and I didn't read carefully. I was going to change it, but you posted first [Frown]

However...it would be nice to have a compatible LED...but I haven't seen one yet [Smile]

I'm sure if one existed Van Eck would have it [Smile]

Clinton, I have used a lamp similar to the one you are hoping to replace the original lamp with, with disastrous results. The lamp is brighter but remember the lamp's concentrated heat is on a small aperture just under the frame, if you pause the film over this, it heats up very quickly as I found out when it burnt a frame of film completely through. The light and heat has no where to go but through your film frame. My advice to you would be, clean the optics and the mirror first, and make sure the mirror is correctly aligned to the screen, this will make a difference. They are not brilliant even when new, led would be better, perhaps now they do something, back then it was not heard of for this kind of lighting, the only drawback is that you cannot focus the light without a lens, there maybe one with a fixed focus lens that will fit this, I have not searched online, maybe worth a look.

This is stark warning indeed here from Paul, Clinton.
I have been using the halogen lamps from Edwin Van Eck since first obtaining the editor a few years back now.

I initially "focussed" the lamp as you are instructed to using the standard incandescent lamp and subsequently after a few years and one lamp change out, I have never had any issues with using the replacement halogen lamps.

Yes, they are far more difficult to obtain uniform brightness over the full area of the Fresnel screen, but aside from this, I have not seen any disadvantages of switching to this lamp.
As said, they are brighter, just not staggeringly brighter.

Thanks Paul and Andrew for the thoughts :-) I ever do change to a different lamp I will put my observations here Janice.
It's a trial and error kind of thing when new lamps are produced and we as collectors try them in different circumstances :-)
